In this alternate history narrative, the French Revolution has failed. The King of France has an army of automatons and has taken control of all of Paris. All of Paris? No! Only the queen and the player-controlled Aegis, also an automaton, can save the situation now.

A beautiful Dark Souls "Light" with some weaknesses and a simple character editor. The game uses familiar gameplay mechanics from Dark Souls, but doesn't offer as much variety in terms of armor and weapons. The biggest weakness of the game is the hardware requirements. If you don't have the most modern PC, you'll have to adjust to 30-60 FPS with medium graphics settings, depending on where you are.

The 18th century Paris is visually very beautiful, large and twisty. There are side quests, save points where we can level up Aegis and buy/sell equipment. Later on, a quick travel function is added. So everything you would expect from such a game.

Weapons now have special abilities, "block", "parry" or ranged combat is only possible through them. There are two weapon slots, so you can create good combinations and give the game some individualism. The length of the main game (without DLC) is about 20-25 hours, depending on your play style.

Overall, Steelrising doesn't do anything better than Dark Souls, just a bit different. If you like this kind of game, you should pick it up when it's on sale.

Your only task is to escape from the school, where you are imprisoned by a psychopathic yangire... and she probably has one of the best AIs you can encounter. She has a "good" and an "evil" character. Depending on the difficulty level, the AI will only want to play with you. As long as you don't resist her and try to escape, she won't hurt you. However, if you go in search of the safe code, in which the exit key is located, she will get angry.... very very angry! The AI will try to trick you, lie to you, take away your keys, imprison you, hunt you down and kill you. And she has a lot of surprises in store. You can only run, hide or die.
The safe code as well as all items are randomly assigned. So each game is different from the previous one and increases the replay value. The AI makes the game very entertaining, always when you think you've seen everything something new comes up.
10/10 happy dying!

The game wants to be so much... exploration and puzzles like in Resident Evil 1, the setting from part 4, the craziness from part 7, action, horror, steampunk.... and somewhere in the middle of it all is a fairy tale. In the end, however, it's nothing half and nothing whole. If you look behind the imposing scenes and the outstanding graphics with all the effects, there's not much left of the actual game. Even the vampire/werewolf setting doesn't change that much.

The partially charismatic and interesting villains that are presented to you relatively at the beginning of the game only turn out to be victims of a hastily thrown together gameplay with even worse dialogs and monologues. Imposing or eerie locations like the castle or the doll maker's house are unfortunately so short that they remain mere footnotes and exceptions in an otherwise monotonous gameplay. What starts out as a Resident Evil 4 vibe launching setting becomes more and more of a pointless action shooter. The problem with this is your rather sluggish controls in direct comparison to the mostly swift enemies. What still worked in part 7 and fit well into the game now just doesn't feel good anymore, as enemies sometimes don't react to your hits at all. It's not so bad with single enemies, but when you're only fighting hordes, the whole system fails.

However, the game also left me relatively early with everything else. For every "puzzle", the appropriate answer is practically right next to it. The interesting story at the beginning of the game becomes more and more absurd and unrealistic (in the context of the realism of Resident Evil in general). The game makes it virtually impossible to identify in any way with the main character or emotionally relate to what he is experiencing, due to the story and dialogue.

However, it is also carried by the numerous allusions to previous events or characters without creating anything memorable itself. Everything you need to know is served to you half-baked at the very end, without leaving you room for your own reflections. The soundtrack is practically absent, unlike other games in the series. If you come out of the cinema and afterwards you think about what just happened, the producers have done everything right. That's exactly what many games manage to do, even if they don't have the same budget. Resident Evil Village doesn't do that. When the credits roll, the game is over, in every sense of the word.

But even the small things can have a big impact. While in part 7 the character opened the doors by hand or simply leaned against the wall, here the doors open or close mostly by themselves. When you quickly switch between two weapons, the character seems to have 4 arms instead of 2. The boat ride in part 4 felt more realistic, as the boat here seems to ride on rails rather than water....

In the whole game there were maybe 2-3 areas that still had anything to do with horror. That means if you expect darkness, oppressive atmosphere or a dense scary atmosphere with an exciting story you will be disappointed here.

For a game that wants to continue a story, it fails in too many ways. It is a game without a soul of itself.

A first-person scary walking simulator with excellent graphics and sound. The whole scenario takes place in a dark forest and will not change throughout the game. However, you will get some variety by the different places and things you will discover during your journey. Because as you can already assume you are not completely alone there. A nice, atmospheric game with good music and some surprises.

The second part of the Dread Out series expands the gameplay concept without moving too far away from it. As in the first part, you control Linda from the third perspective and fight ghosts with your smartphone camera.
Unlike in the first part, which was quite linear, you now have a kind of open-world scenario. You can explore areas and depending on the story progression, new areas will be added, some of them bigger than others. You can also talk to NPCs and there are also side quests to fulfill.
The second new feature is that Linda can now use melee weapons to fight enemies (no ghosts). Also the nexus was removed from part 1 after your death, you don't have to run towards a white light anymore, the game automatically loads the last autosave.

Pro:
-better graphics and sound than the previous one = better atmosphere
-opponents you cannot defeat with the camera / melee weapons
-Good mixture of open world and linear game world
-interesting and challenging boss opponents
-no nexus from part 1

Contra:
-As in the previous one there are one or two bosses that are extremely hard to defeat with a gamepad
-one or two bugs, which can be avoided
-the Open World areas are interesting, but in the end they are too empty

This is a first person horror exploration game and is similar in mechanics to Fatal Frame or Dread Out. Inside the building you have to find objects or keys and solve small puzzles to unlock more rooms. You will be attacked by ghosts, some of them can be defeated with your camera while others can only be avoided. There is a boss enemy and also hidden items to discover. You can save your progress in save rooms. The game has adequate graphics for a horror game, the sound could have been better. If you search everything, you will need about 4 hours.

Early Access Review
Your task in this horror walking simulator is to break into an abandoned house, steal an item and disappear again.
Easy?
Wrong ;)
The story and gameplay starts out quite unspectacular, but at a certain point you'll realize that this game is more than it seems. The self-increasing story suddenly turns and you find yourself in a nightmare. The game combines many different good ideas from the horror genre and uses them well. From jumpscares to chase scenes and small puzzles. Graphics and sound are very harmonic. The price performance ratio is top notch.
