Don't start playing, it's no longer any fun. The maps are stale, there are only the same handful of round types (bomb bases, domination, etc), and the matchmaking is HORRIBLE. 'Custom Battles' offer very little customization, and the battle rating system (deeply flawed) means you often have WW2 vehicles facing post-war and contemporary vehicles, with everything in between. Some proper customization would be nice in CUSTOM BATTLES. Namely, the ability to restrict vehicles by year rather than BR, so that you don't have late WW2 vehicles facing those from the Korean war and beyond, without any defense from guided missiles and the like. This game was a lot of fun when it was WW2 only, and in their greed Gaijin kept on adding modern vehicles without a serious overhaul of the games dynamics, making it awful.

The economy is another matter. There are repair costs for vehicles (which are often absurd), and in my nearly decade of playing this game I have seen a steep decline in the rewards you get for playing the game well. It's often you need to get 3 or 4 kills in a vehicle just to break even with your repair costs, which is very difficult at times. Some bombers are nearly unplayable due to their being a desirable target, and general inability to kill other aircraft. That is unless you'd like to spend money on in-game currency and a premium account, of course.

This game needs a serious revamp if it is to be made fun again. New, better maps (and maybe the ability to exclude some of the terrible ones from your search), a less strenuous grind, and NEW GAME MODES/OBJECTIVES!!!!! Perhaps make matchmaking have the ability to be based on year of production rather than BR (especially in sim battles) and larger, more open maps. Different maps for WW2 and post-war
