The best Card game on Steam!
This review does not contain any spoilers for any Witcher Games

Gameplay
When it comes to card games the most important thing is without a doubt gameplay and balancing. The gameplay of Gwent is quite simple and very familiar to anyone who has played Gwent in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
Each player must play one card each turn from a deck of at least twenty-five cards. Each deck belongs to a faction that offers different play styles. Each faction has different "leaders" who each have individual abilities. As Gwent does not use a mana system like most traditional collectible card games, card advantage is often what wins the game.
The gameplay of Gwent is very addicting (in a good way) and also very intuitive once you get the hang of it. In my opinion Gwent is currently the best online card game in terms of gameplay but it all depends on what your personal preference is.

Balancing & Luck (RNG)
Gwent has had its fair share of criticism because of its balancing issues in the beginning and while it is true that most of that criticism was warranted at the time I feel like the devs have done enough to drop the stigma of Gwent being a badly balanced game. The game receives constant updates and it truly feels like the devs care and listen to it’s fanbase.

When it comes to luck or RNG as some may call it Gwent is like most other card games in my opinion. I have played many hours of both Gwent and Hearthstone so those are the games that I will be comparing in this instance and in my opinion Gwent is at the same level if not better in terms of RNG when compared to Hearthstone. Certain decks and architectures are more reliant on RNG but for the most part the game feels fair and balanced when it comes to RNG.

Soundtrack
Gwent has got one of the best soundtracks in gaming history. It uses elements from both The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt which are two games with excellent soundtracks. The music is great at keeping you engaged and makes the atmosphere of the game feel incredible.

Graphics
While it is true that graphics are from the most important thing in card games I still do believe that they are a major factor in why Gwent is one of the best card games right now. The game is absolutely stunning and features several incredible artworks specifically made for Gwent. Every card in the game has an animated version and almost all animated cards look incredible and add to the amazing atmosphere of the game.

Flaws
While Gwent is an incredible game it does have certain flaws that I am sure the game devs are constantly working on. One of gwents flaws in my opinion is that it is very hard to figure out the meta if you have not been playing the game for a while. Getting back into the game can be quite the hassle if you are not prepared to sink many hours into the game just to get back to level you were at before but then again I do admit that this is the game with most card games.

I have also experienced some performance issues on my laptop & phone when not playing on my gaming PC. The game is visually incredible but I feel like they should tone it down for the low settings so that you can play on at least 60fps on all devices.

Final Rating
My final rating of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is a solid 9/10!

It may be the least, but still pay to win . Gold cards are not bought with ore, but with scraps. If you grind long enough (not 10, but many, many hours) you get ore, buy regular kegs, get scraps and eventually you will buy a couple of gold cards. While your paying opponents of the same level as you will have more gold cards and much better decks. So what is the point? Keep paying so you can defeat non-paying opponents? Great fun.

Instead of milking customers this game should have been fixed price. Only then it would have been fair. There is a reason why some countries have banned "loot crates" in games.

What are you on about? Gwent is the least P2W card game out there, you need to put hours into the game in order to have a better deck? Yeah that's a given with any card game. Anyone who has played the game for more than 10 hours should have enough ore to build whatever deck they desire.

Your complaint is essentially: "I need to play the game in order to get a good deck" and I do not see how that is a problem with the game.

Nice review, but you don't mention the elephant in the room - pay to win . You can get many hours of enjoyable play... and then, just when you get good at it you start getting opponents with "meta decks" - decks specially designed to exploit a "feature", or a flaw of certain cards. You either have to grind long and hard to get all the cards required for one of these decks, or just buy the premium kegs.

Don't get me wrong, Gwent would have been a great game if instead of being "free" it was sold at fixed price and all the paid add-ons were for cosmetics like animated cards, avatars, boards etc. Now they have succeeded at creating a toxic community which competes at spending money to buy all the premium kegs they need for the latest and greatest meta deck. If that is your thing, then Gwent is for you. But If you prefer fair games, you are much better off playing something like Dominion.
