Excellent 90s inspired Run n Gun shooter - very tight and responsive controls, great sound design, good level design, and a lot of character to the enemies and bosses. Can feel slightly unfair at times, but pattern recognition will always have you kick everyone's butt quite easily (if annoyingly): see the Nadja and Murdoch boss fights as an example. The characters are more like playstyles: Anna is 'balanced', John is 'power', and Mow Man is 'speed'. I stuck to Mow Man because of his lines and his spammy pistol - rip my fingers.

Only minor gripe: the music could be better than the 'ha ha 80s retro vaporwave' trend, but otherwise extremely solid game overall. Almost wrote it off at the beginning because it was easy, but difficulty picked up soon enough to keep me happy.

This game is basically what if Zombies Ate My Neighbours, Enter The Gungeon, and Stardew Valley spent a few drunken nights together then had a baby.

It's a top-down shooter where you farm dancing crops to get cashews to buy better gear and avoid bullets, all while the strangest music plays all along. It's completely insane and full of puns - I LOVE IT.

10/10, you owe it to yourself to play this if you love any of the three games I mentioned, and are OK with multi-tasking 5 things at once.

Excellent game for short play-sessions. Think of it as One Finger Death Punch (especially 2), but instead of seeking catharsis via beating up mooks through left-right switcharoos, you're out to prove your twitch playing skills in a deadly one-hit-ends-all game.

Which is admittedly nothing the same but it gets the idea across :p.

Easily the best CCG available as of the time of writing. Mythgard is good, but it has a ways to go before it can compete thus far. The rest don't really compare, either from mechanics and depth or due to not being generous as F2P. Truly a labour of love.

TL;DR: Guacamelee 2 is everything a solid sequel should be: more of the same, with extra garnish and seasoning on top.

Heartily reccommended.

-------------

Plays more or less the same as the first Guacameele at heart, with tight controls, great writing, fantastic music, and fun gameplay involving beating up various forms of dia de los muertos themed enemies.

There is more salsa compared to the first game by way of additional upgrades, more enemy variety, harder optional platforming levels, and expanded chicken form gameplay.

Graphics and music are top-notch as ever, and controls are tight and fluid with plenty of moves chaining into one another. It's fun to play because you feel just overpowered enough to take on the enemy hordes as long as you have good sense of timing to maneuver and dodge as required. Getting hit feels like your own fault as opposed to oppressive design.

The story is even wackier than the first game: it parodies many video game tropes and franchaises while making numerous callbacks to the previous game and the current state of pop-culture references (read: Avengers Infinity Wars).

No real cons in my opinion.

Can it be improved? Probably.

Is it impaired in any form? Absolutely not.

tl;dr Verdict: Buy if you're a fan of city builders or wait for a sale and then buy. It's a good game.

Hearthlands takes a lot of inspiration from the city-building games in the vein of The Settlers, The Nations, Knights & Merchants and especially the Caesar/Pharaoh/Poseidon series.

Despite being in early access, all the systems and 'foundational blocks' of a city building game are there: an economy chain, military units, city planning, rival states, and various 'creatures' that pose a threat to your city in the map. In this regard, I like to think of the game as Caesar 3's city building meets Seven Kingdom's military/combat style (with magic spells to boot).

It's definitely worth the money if you're a fan of city building games, but you may want to wait a little if you're not a die-hard fan; the game can feel a wee bit barebones in some aspects such as diplomacy. Still, it's a good title.
