An absolute masterclass in live service gaming.

The base gameplay systems are all good, its a well made third person shooter with interesting enemies, cool mechanics and well made gunplay. For the most part is well balanced and each weapon does tend to have its own role, though a focus on anti-heavy weapons is very strong the harder difficulty you choose to play on.

Where it really shines, however, is the persistent and evolving campaign map that players interact with. A constantly evolving and shifting campaign experience with objectives that create a really intriguing story with plenty of room for mass speculation from the community. These objectives really help to foster a large community feeling and create a sense of "being a part of something larger" where individual missions will sometimes contribute less than 1% towards the overall accomplishment of taking a planet or completing an objective. The way in which new events or even new enemies to face are added in with little fanfair, leaving players to discover terrifying new threats is genius. At this point I'm convinced that Arrowhead are mostly a PR firm that decided to make a game.

The theming itself is empowering, yet also amusing (if in a particularly dark way), with players getting to feel both completely expendable and also like death dealing gods at the same time.

I'd highly recommend this game to anyone regardless of how casual or hardcore their gaming experience is, as it has a place for each.
