I loved this game to death. It holds its rightful place as one of the best multiplayer experiences I've ever had the pleasure of playing. However, the lack of official support, lackluster updates, and script kiddies on the game drag it down to a rather pitiful level. It really saddens me to see what was once a fantastic experience to be muddled by developer neglect / ignorance as well as the aforementioned script kiddies. It is a rare occurrence to find a lobby without one of these players (or bots) and it just ruins any attempt at playing the game. The other major gripe I have with the game is the elimination of quick play. While I do love the competitive scene of TF2, I always enjoyed hopping into the instant action that was quick play. There was something special about joining a lobby of whatever gamemode you wanted, unsure of what time you'd join or what team you'd end up on. Instead, we have a watered down competitive mode that always seems to auto-balance at rather unfortunate times during the match.

I am a firm believer that this game still has a chance to be excellent, but it appears that Valve is putting their stock in their more popular games such as CS:GO, DOTA 2, and now Half-life if you can believe that. Regardless, I am quite satisfied with the playtime I had ever since the game's beta and wish I could relive the glory days back in 2012 - 2015. I obviously have some minor gripes regarding weapon balancing, but for the most part, the gameplay still holds up. Sadly, as of writing this review, I can not recommend this game to new players due to the previously mentioned issues. However, if you play on a community server, you may be able to get around these issues. If you're serious about getting into the game, community servers that aren't bloated with plugins would be the perfect way to experience TF2 in its current state.

Here's to hoping that Valve remembers that TF2 was once one of their strongest titles and attempts to restore it to its former glory.
