Early Access Review
Totally unbalanced. If you want to only play the one or two classes that are busted then you will have fun, otherwise the game is a total waste of time.

I don’t really understand the hate it is getting right now.. I have played Civ 3/4/5/6 and I think this is the best Civ mechanically. I have played 5.7 hours as of this review which is significantly more than a lot of the reviews that only have 1 or 2 hours.

I actually like the age system so far. Every decision makes you weigh the long term vs short term. The crisis system is interesting but I kind of wish the debuffs were picked for you based off your previous decisions. I like how the agr system affects pacing, giving you 3 shorter games to build your buffs/bonuses/abilities over the macro overarching game.

I do agree with some of the reviews about QoL features missing and the UI being obviously geared towards console players however I don’t think that’s a reason to not play the game…

Overall I think that’s the fundamental mechanics are very solid, which is the most important part of the game. I wish there were more leaders and nations to pick from on launch and, though I have some small gripes about QoL and UI, I think it’s maybe only a 5-10% negative and I will still continue to play the game going forward here.

This game is great. It is a far improved version of the original Thief Simulator, which I loved. My favorite thing about this game is the increased progression. You now have a reason beyond money or bragging rights to really clean a place out or go back several times.

Great game. I would describe it as a cross between Valheim and Rust. Pretty fun balance of PvP and PvE

THIS is a role-playing game… I have been playing RPGs my entire life, whether tabletop or video game. BG3 seriously immerses you in the world, and I’ll say I think this is because of the intense focus on detail… Many modern games have huge expansive worlds, but they feel empty because there is too much a focus on quantity/size over quality/depth. BG3 is not only absurdly large, but it is insanely detailed… there is not a single nook or cranny I have explored that didn’t give me some sort of reward or lead me down another rabbit hole…

The last thing I will say is that I am playing two separate co-op campaigns with friends as well as a solo play through and all three have been refreshingly different, thanks to different party compositions. In one game we are going as full stealth and morally neutral/selfish, another we are the typical heroic good guys, and in my solo play through I am a power hungry and evil oathbreaker paladin. ALL 3 of these have been different, and I have found dialogues and story lines that I did not get with the others.

10/10 and what will obviously be winner of game of the year.

I have followed this game since it was announced but originally refused to buy it since it was not on Steam. I only have a few hours on this game so far, but I wanted to get my review out while the summer sale is still going on. This game is incredibly fun. There is something for EVERYONE in this game, you truly can play your way.

The design choices are great and I will give some examples. For instance, you have the option to "teleport nearby" to an event but it does not directly teleport you to it and I actually like this because depending on where you are at sometimes you get distracted and just start doing tricks and racing down a mountain with some random guy playing online next to you. The jetpack I thought was goofy at first, but its actually awesome because you can use it to get to events quickly or to get into crazy to reach spots and switch to a different ride and do insane stuff. Another positive consumer practice is the BMX bike. The BMX bike career (story mode) stuff is all locked behind the 1 year pass, but you have full and complete access to the BMX to run around the vast open world and skate parks doing tricks and free play. Because I got to mess around with the BMX bike freely I grew to really enjoy it and play on getting the story mode for it once I beat some of the other rides.

Long story short this game puts the players fun first in everything it does.

VERY in-depth and almost overwhelmingly so. I almost requested a refund when I first got it because it was so incredibly complicated, but I pressed on and watched some youtube videos to figure out some strategy and now I love this game. Waiting for the DLC to go on sale

Early Access Review
I will first say that I had many many ours in the demo of this game before official 1.0 early access release thing. The responsiveness of combat has improved and there seem to have been many balance changes to damage and armor that make the absurdly long matches in the demo more reasonable now.

I would like to see more improvements to the blocking mechanic since most matches you're better off just swinging wildly and doing as much damage as possible. The "active" blocking is very very tough to do correctly with the AI of the camera following you and so most of your blocks are just "passive" blocks from having a large shield and whomever is attacking you accidentally hits it.

Finally, I think what this game needs more than anything is an online mode where you can fight arena matches with your gladiators against someone else. The AI is not bad, but it would be so much more interesting and adrenaline pumping with someone real on the other side of that gladiator. Also, this would be a sweet opportunity for leaderboards where you can see who the most legendary gladiators in your region of the world and see them rise and fall..
