9 Years of Shadows is a metroidvania style game where you play as a young woman named Europa who braves a castle to attempt to restore the color of the world after a 9 year curse that brought endless darkness. Find different magical armors and abillities along the way and befriend a Teddy Bear that you can hug to heal yourself... and throw projectiles to murder the hell out of your enemies! This is best played with a controller.

Pros:

Beautiful Musical Score
Well Written Story
A Mix of Retro Aesthetic with Modern Pixel Art
No Framerate Lock
Plenty of Secrets and Things To Find, Places To Explore
Steam Deck/Linux Friendly: About An Hour's Worth Of Play On Battery
Cloud Saves!

Cons:

In the beginning, when playing on my 4K Desktop, the camera would not follow the character properly. It wasn't until launching the game on my Steam Deck that I was able to play it fine across all computers.

The game runs hotter than expected. When playing on Steam Deck it can get pretty warm. Long use on desktop also generates the kind of heat you would expect from playing newer FPS games.

Some people have reported that the game crashes or freezes when getting to the end credits. I finished the game on Steam Deck without it doing that though.

Overall, if you like platformers and metroidvanias, this is one worth looking at! When I saw a friend of mine playing it on their Linux system it was an immediate purchase!

I give it 9 Melons out of 10!

My Suika- Watermelon game is like Tetris if you think in the sense of Japanese fruit math. Match any two fruits to make one greater fruit. For example two blueberries will make one raspberry, two raspberries will make one small bunch of grapes. The goal is to keep combining fruits until you get a watermelon, which is harder than it looks.

At the time of review: My Suika - Watermelon game has a Playable rating for Steam Deck. While the gameplay itself is perfectly fine when playing on Steam Deck/Linux the process does seem to get stuck when closing the program. However it is easy to force close either through Steam or System Monitor.

This is oddly more addicting than I would care to admit, and given the low price it's hard not to recommend.

12 Melons out of 8.

Portal: Revolution is another amazing free mod you can download that offers amazing puzzles and level design, plenty of achievements, amazing music and voice acting. Like many other Portal 2 mods it runs amazingly on Steam Deck! I highly recommend giving it a try. If you really like it you can support the devs by purchasing the plush cube DLC, or soundtrack.

More info here: https://www.portalrevolution.com/support-us

If you're looking for more Portal adventures this is another one to add to your list!

Shantae and the Seven Sirens is the well anticipated sequel to Shantae: Half Genie Hero. Take a vacation and partake in a Genie Festival!... or a mystery to solve the disappearance of your fellow half genies. Learn new transformations that will help you explore every nook and cranny of a paradise island, and save it from the Seven Sirens that await a good fight you will hopefully provide.

Pros:

Linux/Steam Deck Friendly
Crisp Animated Visuals
Anime Style Cutscenes
Creative Story Writing and Level Design
Fun Chiptune-esque Soundtrack
Cloud Saves!

Cons:

60 FPS Limit in 2020? C'mon... I mean, I forgive you, but c'mon.

If you're already into the Shantae series, or you're looking to add to your Metroidvania collection, this does not disappoint!

10/10 will play again.

If you smell bacon be very careful, it might just be you thinking too hard. This is a MUST if you own Portal 2, it's practically DLC status in terms of quality. I had fun playing this in between Steam Deck and Desktop (looks pretty SICC on a big screen TV too). Portal Reloaded does an amazing job adding time travel to spice up the puzzle solving.

In Aragami you play a summoned warrior made of shadows, and shrouded in mystery that you will slowly uncover throughout the game. There are 13 Chapters in total, and a multitude of ways to traverse the many night time landscapes that lay ahead. Try to be a saint and finish each level without a single death, or leave no witnesses.

Pros:

Timeless Art Style
Captivating and Immersive Soundtrack
Steam Deck/Linux Friendly
Uncapped Framerate
A Gripping Storyline
Includes Level Editor and Steam Workshop
Multiple ways to play
Fun to play Handheld, at the desk, or in front of a TV

Cons:

None?

Aragami is definitely worth considering if you like stealth! Highly recommend!

Pros:

Breathtaking Visuals and Art Style
Beautiful Selection of Music
Better on Linux/Steam Deck (Process Doesn't Hang)
Full Refresh Rate

Cons:

Misbehaving Camera
Clunky Jumping and Sword Fighting
Achievements will only update if you close the game
Menu Buttons sometimes get stuck, can't go up or down (On Linux/Steam Deck or Windows)
The game process might get stuck if you're playing on Windows, and may require a full restart. This does not happen when playing on Linux or Steam Deck however.

If you're looking for a couple hours to kill, and want a short story to play I'd recommend getting it during a sale. The controls are doable, but rather clunky, even by 2015 standards. The 2D artwork and 3D visuals are breathtaking, even when playing in 4K.

I originally received Trine during one of many giveaways, but even so I probably would have purchased it anyway. The story follows a Thief a Wizard and a Knight as they are bound together over something that didn't start as friendship, and must go on an adventure to free themselves from an old relic known as the Trine. Each character offers their own abilities, and multiple possibilities of getting through each level.

Pros:

Full Refresh Rate
Steam Deck/Linux Friendly
Cloud Saves!
Single Player or Three Player Multiplayer
Enchanting Music and Visuals
Great Voice Acting
Stunning in 4K
Steam Workshop Support

Cons: None!

If you fancy a mix of Adventure and Physics Puzzles I highly recommend it!

If you finished the main campaign this is a MUST HAVE! The level design is just as incredible as the base game, if not more-so. The new weapons are fun, the secrets range from cool to hilarious, and the music sets the tone throughout your journey.

I rate it a 23/10
