I may have taken it as my online name, but "optoskept" was originally a composite word I made to have a meaning I valued. It might have been better to spell it as "optiskept" as the primary roots are relating to optimism and skepticism, but aside from liking the look and sound of how it turned out better, this way it adds a reference to vision that I feel adds to it. I guess the best compact definition might be "visionary, skeptical optimism". By that, I mean that the primary focus is on imagining routes to hopeful future possibilities, though this is tempered with a degree of realism. I based "optoskept" on an earlier neologism I made, "nihilopto", which has similar meaning in terms of vision and optimism but substitutes skepticism with nihilism. I guess I got to the point where I considered the scientific process of repeatability to be more important than intellectual perfection and the truth that even overwhelming evidence doesn't necessarily constitute true knowledge. Anyway. I almost regret taking "optoskept" as my online name instead of working more to establish it as a neologism in and of itself. Maybe the two aren't mutually exclusive.
