It's not Skyrim, don't think it's Skyrim. It's doing it's own thing, for better or worse, and I really like it.

This latest iteration of Civ is really different. It takes a bunch of new mechanics and ideas from other 4X games over the past couple years and tries to integrate them into the Civ formula, with mixed but ultimately, I think, good results. As a lot of other people have pointed out in their reviews, the UI is by far the worst aspect of the game on launch. Difficult to find and read important info, lots of unnecessary clicks, etc. I'm confident this will be addressed with time.

Keep an open mind and give it a shot.

This game is a blend of genres that's difficult to explain, but it feels "right". There are some pain points with the UI and a couple of poorly explained mechanics, but overall it's very smooth and fleshed out for an early access game. I only experienced 2-3 bugs in my playthrough so far, none of which were particularly noticeable nor impacted the gameplay in any way. All in all, I accidentally played ~18 hours within 48 hours of buying the game. It's good. Buy it.

Beautiful game with a lot of neat systems that seems to be going in a good direction.

Exceptionally good bones here, but I had to stop playing because of random bugs and constantly encountering unfinished content. Will shelf the game for now and come back in like 6 months to see how it's coming along.

Game runs fine, ignore the review-bombers.

It's good. It feels like, yknow, a Bethesda game. But in space. It isn't No Man's Sky, the actual space flying leaves a lot to be desired. But it's good.

Very fun, especially with friends. I've encountered a couple of bugs so far, but nothing that broke the game or even inconvenienced me. Looking forward to how they expand the development system with new tomes and cultures, because it really stands out compared to other 4X games in the past decade.

Overall, it's good. Gives the pre-FTL species some much needed love and makes them more relevant. Cloaking is a fun addition that I'm still experimenting with to find the best way to use. That being said, it's a "story pack" for a reason - the vast majority of new content is in narrative events, and I'm not sure they're worth $15. My advice would be to wait for a sale.
