Found this game on a whim and the aesthetics appealed to me greatly. Gonna try to be objective here, but the TLDR is that I love this game and see myself playing it many more hours.

Overview:

If you told me the people who made this game never played the Megaman X and Zero series, I'd call you a liar. It's a huge love letter to both franchises clearly. But with some really smart design it manages to deftly avoid some of the problems those franchises couldn't solve in their time as well.

But, if you think that this game doesn't have anything new to bring to the table, you're wrong. One of the best things in the gameplay is the mechanic to grab and throw enemies in a way that at first reminded me of Mischief Makers on the N64 but quickly showed itself to be so much better than that. Every enemy is a potential projectile and that aspect works whether you're trying use it or not, enemies will crash into one another just from punches and from super moves as well. The seems designed to challenge you, but also set up situations where you can be a badass without much effort and thinking.

Pros:

- Old school, simple graphic designs that have been polished to a fine shine. This game looks like it runs on an NES that was built in the year 3001. Nostalgic and beautiful.

- The simplified designs and color pallets make it super easy to figure out what's going on during the fast pace of game play.

- No space on the controller is wasted. There was clearly a lot of thought put into the control scheme and it felt natural almost immediately.

- The game allows for different approaches for different levels of comfort. The way I play is vastly different from the way my son plays and there's accommodations in the level for both styles.

- No lives takes a lot of the needless frustration out of the game.

- The game is Incredibly fair, I haven't really had a death that felt like wasn't my fault.

- Mechanics aren't over-explained which creates some nice little challenges and puzzles naturally during gameplay.

- Very diverse set of super moves that's easy to change around and change out

- Facial expressions during conversations are well done and add some good humor if you're paying attention.

Not Pro or Con:

- Story here is minimal which helps keep up the pace of the game but could disappoint some people who enjoy deeper stories interspersed with gameplay.

Cons:

- Platforming challenges don't scale as well with difficulty as combat does. I think if Easy mode had things like longer reach for the chain swing or reduced knock back that would help this issue.

- I'd really like to have seen difficulty add challenges rather than just scaling up damage and enemy health. Some examples might be a lives system that gets implemented on hard mode that forces a full restart of the level when depleted.

Conclusion:

It's awesome. Seriously, this game blows me away. Previously I had spent a lot of time playing 20XX and 30XX and thought that my itch for Megaman-style platformers couldn't be scratched any better than that but this game just goes to show that there's more innovation out there for these style of games yet to discover. It's mind blowing to think that this is their first game on Steam and that it's this good and this polished at release.
