Despite the Sony controversy, requiring everyone to have a PSN account (was made optional) and that they sold to particular regions that can no longer play the game, that happened in early Summer 2024, Arrowhead have built something special with this live-service game.

If you want to get into this game, it doesn't take a whole lot of grinding to get all the stratagems, but you can be lethal from the very beginning just with a Orbital Precision if you get a good feel for its timing. Don't be afraid of failing, but most of all, this game is meant to be fun. If you have a couple of friends to drag along, you should have an amusing time TKing each other. But if you are not having fun within the first 2 hours, refund it since the gameplay will change very little going forward.

The thing I liked about this game (particularly during the earlier months) was that it always presented a challenge, and that was always the case especially on the old evacuate high-value asset missions on the bot front. That being said, that loadout solution was pretty one-dimensional and you could still lose to something stupid. The challenging feeling has sort of waned off me as I've gotten too comfortable just running in blindly, but the new content has kept my mind fresh.

Seeing how Arrowhead tried to nerf meta weapons, it did make the game harder in general, but the sentiment was overwhelming negative (I personally think it was a tad bit overblown), but Arrowhead also didn't like the state of the game and reverted and brought the over weapons in line with the rest. The change made it such that bringing almost any loadout a viable option on any front. In my opinion, there are a couple of weapons that should be nerfed just because it does make the game a bit braindead, but if you really want a challenge, just play with the non-meta weapons.

With the Illuminate now out, it's a new challenge, but it doesn't feel like it's at its full potential yet (less distinct types than the other 2 fronts, no mega encampment). I'm looking forward to seeing what tricks Arrowhead have for the Illuminate and any potential higher difficulties.
