After 14 more hours, i've come back and reedited my review to say: this game is not good

Let me start off with the usual

I'm a big Amplitude fan and a lifelong Civ player since Civ 4, so I had high hopes for this game, but, unfortunately, it just feels like a bad mod of Endless Legend, lacking the charm and style of 13 unique factions, with their own mechanics, quests and units, and instead doing just what Civ does, but under a different skin.

The culture swapping mechanic in itself is not a great idea, as it feels immensely weird to be swapping from a culture in Mesopotamia to one in the Mediterranean, to Arabia and then to East Asia before going back to Europe. It doesn't really give you an identity, just another clothing your avatar can wear.

"But you can just keep your culture" but you're still missing on the bonuses the other cultures give, and for what? Meaningless points? There's no real reason to not just hop to another culture as the game stands at the moment.

Another thing that sucks is the feeling of them blatantly copying Civ, without what makes the original good, like how there's a humanpedia with barely any text to it, the maps use civ 6's cool fog of war ye olde "monsters be here" thing, but without the actual effort to make it look drawn like an actual map.

All in all, Humankind just feels like a massive step down from what Amplitude made before and it's such a shame.

OFDP is that weird game that is real simple yet when you play it, it just sucks you in, making you waste many hours beating up stickmen
