Fantastic game. Understandable slow start but it picks up the speed on the second half. As per usual, everything in the beginning is a mystery. Ichiban starts at rock bottom and everything slowly unfolds as he moves on and meets new people. Voice acting is fantastic too. Kazuhiro Nakaya really carried hard that final scene.
The series did a good job of transitioning into a turn based JRPG. I love how Nanba is a homeless caster guy that can summon pigeons to attack by throwing beans. Other skills are also great. Camera flash to lower accuracy, Nanba's terrible breath to lower enemy's defense, punking on someone to enrage them, and more. Poundmates is an amazing feature that made clearing substories worth it since some of the substory people can be used in battle as poundmates..
Yokohama Ijincho map is huge. There's a lot of stuff to explore. In contrast, the other two maps don't have much aside from battle arena. Ijincho has a lot of new minigames to play while the other two just feels the same as their old versions. Business management, vocational school, dragon kart, and can quest minigames are all welcome addition to the game.
Probably my 3rd favorite Yakuza game behind 0 and Kiwami 2. Idk, I just really love Kaoru Sayama as a character and I hate that she never appeared anywhere ever again. Same with Yayoi Dojima. I'll never forgive Yakuza 3.
