So I started playing this game back in 2009. I have never played it seriously or ever invested a large amount of time into it ( I have just under 200 hours in this game but never played through steam till today)

First and foremost, the paywall. It will put a lot of people off, it is a big paywall to fully unlock the game. Its not a 1 time purchase either but a subscription service. You can unlock guns and ammo for free, but its a real grind. The business model pushes you to buying stuff. If this puts you off, don't bother. Its the nature of this game and you can not get around that.

Second, this game is hard! If you expect to be able to run around and see anything you are playing the wrong game. You will end up playing a running simulator as apposed to a hunting one. The animals in this game behave as they would in real life. You run around, nothings going to come near you. Animals that are skittish in real life are always like that in the game. It took me hours to even see my first deer when I started, back before the in game tutorials were a thing so I recommend checking them out. Bow hunting is as hard as you imagine it is in real life. Don't expect to be Robin Hood and you should be alright.

Third, The game and the world is stunning, If you don't have a decent PC you will not be able to experience the world for all its glory. There is such a variety of worlds to go and explore that it really is worth being able to do that on the max settings.

My advice is if you are considering playing the game, try it for free, hunt the mule deer with the stock rifle and get a feel. Do that for a few hours, run around and get a feel for it. Then if you have done that and still want to play, look at buying yourself guns that can take down any animal ( Bows for example) that way you get to experience hunting everything without having to buy 4 different guns. Hunt things at first that are easier (Feral hogs are a good start)

I myself come and go with this game a lot. But its always brings me back. Its very well supported by the devs and is always being updated.

Steam does not put dates, But slight update at least now.

The game is no longer membership based / Subscription based.
With the addition of the new mission UI, and Daily missions last year new players are having a much easier time playing the game.

At first a user Is locked to 100k GM's with the missions available, 300k If they buy a bow, 600k+ If they buy the additional weapons. (To encourage every weapon to be used)

Mission resets sit at 13k, So all things considered It is pretty forgiving versus other free to play games, I know a several people that are well, Free to play never a penny spent.

If someone was wanting to spend some cash £30 (5000ems) Timing it to Christmas is ideal, They quite often put up 50% sales In the store on every single item, This obviously makes some things VERY cheap.

The sales end up being so good you stop buying the bundles.... because they actually end up more expensive!
