I enjoy the Danganronpa series. With some minor hiccups, I think that the universe is interesting, and the plot to the main 3 games is engaging for those that don't mind visual novels. This game takes everything I enjoyed about the series and throws it into the trash.

The writing is cringy. The in-game models are ugly and emotionless. The game itself is boring, and the pacing is akin to a man having a heart attack, occasionally being hit with a defibrillator. Let me elaborate.

This is obviously a port of a game from the Vita, or something like that. You can tell because the models look like something off of the 3DS, and since they expected you to play on a tiny screen they have absolutely no expression during cutscenes. The only time this game looks fine is during the few sections which are just anime segments. Those are okay because the art style of DR is great, but it leaves the rest of the game suffering.

You do not do anything in this game. It's a series of walking back and forth, following arrows to find story beats. You will be stopped every 15 feet, either by said story beats or a pickup, and thrown into a cutscene that decimates the pacing. Over half of your time is going to be spent in boring cutscenes- half of those being pointless drivel about a single page of a book or something- and out of that half that you get to spend in the game you'll be doing bare-bones "puzzles" which all have the same goal: use the bullet you just just from the story to do something to kill everything. It's atrocious. I can't imagine playing on a harder difficulty would make it any more interesting.

And the writing, oh god the writing. It makes me skin crawl just thinking about how forced it is. Maybe the original Japanese translation was better, but the English writing and voice acting is just awful. I know DR isn't a deep and serious series, but the tone of this all is just off. Chapter 3 is there I was broken. The sexualization of a young girl is used as the butt of a joke, flip flopping between, "look how serious this is" and "haha look at the girl show her panties." The humor is never addressed, and no deeper meaning was ever taken from it. It was just disgusting.

I hate this game. I refuse to finish it, however close I may be to the end, as I won't let it waste any more of my time. The programmers, artists, writers, and publishers should be ashamed for this piece of garbage they've brought into the world. If I could go back in time and stop any game from being made, it would probably be this one.
