Spectacular Virtual Reality Power applied to an already amazing boomer shooter.

You can swing your sword and see the wave flying out of it, you can aim perfectly with your hand while circle strafing that giant monster that you can see in front of you in real life-size scale.

I'm going to finish this game entirely starting it from scratch again from the previous Flat version.

What I can recommend is
1) buy it immediately
2) Start playing it on HARD : because being able to see with complete freedom, and have perfect aim with your hands will give you an edge that Non-VR players cannot have on the Flat version of the game. So Hard difficulty will feel a little more balanced.
3) Remove the Aiming Reticle, use your eyes with the true power of VR on your weapons :)

The game is blast !!

Games are limited behind tokens (????) but the worst is the way the game looks inside smaller screens
why these weird decisions?
For the price I thought I would get better screen formats :(

I just started playing it since release day and I can already say I like it a lot.
Because in the few runs I had, it was a blast playing it.

It is a very fun FPS Roguelite with a nice challenge level that plays amazing in VR so far.

I will provide a more detailed review with more time in the game but I'm enjoying it a lot already to recommend it :)

I just finished the game and loved it.

HUBRIS is a balanced mix of good FPS action mixed with some exploration for resources and few jumping/climbing parts. The game also introduces some swimming sequences that can have either mixed with some shooting parts or used to gather other resources. There are some other parts that I won't reveal as a surprise.

The resources are used to improve your guns and allows you balance difficulty by storing health items that you craft.
So the game rewards your exploration and you can enjoy the incredible views of all levels with better weapons/healing for the intense action parts.

Beyond all this the game is beautiful and truly eye candy from the very start to a massive ending.
Virtual Reality can provide some incredible views of massive scales and the game shows this many times ...incredible O_o !

I can recommend it even with a GTX 1080 the only difference is that you might need to reduce the sharpness of SteamVR (I tested the demo on a 1080 perfectly but now I played the entire game on a 3080)

A more detailed review

The Good:
- The visuals are very good ones in many ways, from the very start of the game, going to specific sequences and the most amazing ones by the end. Now we have another game in the collection of eye-candy games in VR.
They have some good effects on weapon shots that release sound waves, the water illusion of swimming, some incredible sceneries, good quality on details, original sci-fi ambient, etc.
- The performance is still very very good even on those visuals and I was amazed how they pulled this out.
- The AI as today (February 13th) was improved a lot and the enemies on the hardest difficulty are very agressive and they surprised me at some points by pressing all sorrounding you or hiding with some smart moves. I have read some older reviews complaining about the AI, and I agreed with them at some point, but the DEVs listened to the players and improved the AI a lot. Now the AI provides a nice challenge.
This new AI is not impossible and with some cautious gameplay, or if you have fast reflexes to take cover, or be able heal fast you can beat them.
- The swimming mechanics are amazing and fun. If regularly swim in real life, you will instantly grab the movements, another unique original feature in a VR game mixed with combat.

The not so Bad:
(I cannot say these things are bad...but they could be improved for a more perfect game)

- The game feels short, specially when you think is getting so good by the end.
Is not very short neither (I clocked 11 hours and I love to explore a lot) but it will certainly leave you wanting for more after you finished it, at least it happened to me , and others as I read on other reviews.
Maybe the game can pick up more action sooner, like ...right at the second level, raise up the action parts hehehe
- IMHO it needs another more harder level of difficulty.
Even if I'm reading some other player reviews that complain of having a hard time on some spots (yes, the updated AI gets agressive and can kill you on certain spots easily or it will not forgive your mistakes). I think that adding a new enemy type more challenging can be great. Maybe I would have made new Drones. A little smaller and faster moving than react if a shot hits them or similar. Maybe also a monster/scary enemy.
You need to improve your weapons correctly and get ready to cover as well. Beyond all this the game (read if you finished it) needs to add a final BIG Boss Fight
- I think the game could be better with more underwater combat with new enemies, like bigger ones, again... something scary heheheh
- The guns are not bad (LOVED the morphs) but the recoil is not that good, I would love to had an upgrade that removes it and balance the difficulty not by limiting the player weapons, but giving more challenging pew pew pew action :P Also a small comment: The reload is weird (raise your hand) but you get used to it fast so ...by the end It was part of the gameplay.

Besides all these things the game is truly good , and I think is another prove of good work on VR, and provide some unique features in gaming that were never feasible before.
VR Devs are finding new types of gameplay and evolving the entire experience of playing, Kudos to them for Hubris.

Wow!! Resist surprised me in VR... even if it is the gazillion time.
The game has a great set of mechanics to make the player swing like spiderman in a big city.
So I practiced it and got the handling in a couple of minutes, it works really good because the game allows you to correct your trajectory very easily.

On top of that the game has 2 guns for shooting some enemies around.
Either if you choose to stand still on top of a skycraper building or jum around as spiderman with "bullet time" abilities: it feels amazing!!

The game looks as a full and polished product so far.

Also the game has a plethora of options for a lot of settings to happy customize it.
Including options to avoid motion sickness.... that I disabled ALL :P

So far early review is: Totally recommended.
It is a full game, not early access, and the game has a neat idea for good VR action gameplay.
Also it surprised me since the very intro + great tutorial to enjoy it.

Great release so far.
Very stable server connection, no issues while playing. There is already a ton of players playing it ...wow.

Vail VR reminded me that: FPS in VR are another level with TRUE aiming skill & reload skills.

The weapons feel great to play, nice idea about the nades in the sides of your arms it feels very tactical for quick reaction situations.
Other good ideas are: the way to see your teammates through walls to promote a more coordinated gameplay if wanted.
Also the way to mark enemy players with custom colors, so you play greatly focused with both colored indicators on players. Interesting Ideas that work nice so far.

This is just an initial review aimed to early players checking the release: so far I have to say it feels very polished and most importantly VERY FUN :)

Further Update:
This game is a must have. I'm updating this for anyone to not miss it, because the gameplay becomes easy to practice and enjoy and it provides unique adrenaline moments.
Also the servers are getting a constant number of players and once again it is VERY FUN to play and Devs keep expanding content (levels, modes, weapons) + cosmetics. :)

Great Game with original visual design and neat gameplay ideas.

The game uses a progressive roguelike format with good difficulty to push you through building your character to overcome increasing levels ( You can select the incursions based on difficulty and rewards)
The gameplay has frenetic twin-stick action moments, and the game rewards you for quick reactions like good weapon switchs, timely dodging, special kills, etc.
Above all this the character uses a very useful grappling hook that can be used with mixed combinations of skillful resource grabbing or combat moves.

I will play this further to provide a more deep review and probably share some gameplay in the near future, but so far I can strongly recommend the game.

The only drawback that I saw so far is some things are not so clearly explained in the game, and the initial runs will probably need you to get used to some dark spots but you will or you can adjust better the brightness heheh.

There were some bugs during the release but the devs are following the game with many updates and they fixed those already by now.

Yes, the developers are very kind to recommendations and listen the community, they are doing a nice job...this game is worthy and fun :)

The game can be played on full GEOMETRY 3D and looks way better than normal Flat2D pancake view. Adjust your 3D depth taste and ENJOY!

Bought it to try it for the initial 2 hours and I'm keeping it.

You are a mage with 2 wands, each wand can have 2 spells.
You have an initial list of spells to select in your suitcase and configure the wands with those to play.
To move in the levels you teleport to specific lamps that light some spots to charge your wands, you can phisically move under the lantern but no more and you can cover or move in any way when shooting using your preloaded spells in the wands.

The shots can be direct damage to special powers like making an area damage into any players under a lamp, to big bombs of damage that travels slowly. Some players can launch a spell that heals allies, hide them and other crazy varieties that you need to unlock gradually as they are more complex.

The gameplay was very fun and simple but there is deep tactic hidden in the spells combinations so as you progress the game evolves gradually better and better with more variants per teams or objetives.

I had a lot of fun so far.
I do not usually play multiplayer games so I do not care if I found players or bots anyway. I found some players but I prefer to play single player so far to practice and build a better loadout strategy with the spells. The AI is a nice challenge so far, so mixed players/AI or full AI are not problem to play for me

Surprisingly well polished multiplayer HERO FPS.
But on top of that the game is very fun and addictive. As you get prizes to unlock features to optimize your preferred character build. And later to optimize them.
Nice variety of roles to choose, and really fun gameplay modes that keep rotating constantly. I have to recognize that I enjoyed ALL of them.
Team work coordination is essential and the game has a very addictive pace as found in similar games of the genre, only that here you can do some crazy moves on VR.

Way too simplistic but well done visual models.
I cannot complain after playing it local couch coop happy night
