This is one of the better PS2 games I've played.

It's such a weird game overall. The Horde and "Freaker" technology is pretty good, it's fun seeing hundreds of zombies charging you at once, gunning them down and it's easily some of the better parts of the game.

Story is a bit hit and miss at times, pacing is all over the place. Characters are good, feel "real" enough and I did enjoy some moments with them.

Just the overall feel of this game is.. wild. This came out after RDR2 and God of War, yet seemed to have picked up absolutely nothing from them in regards to open-world design, mission structure or anything of the sort. It feels like it's stuck in a bizzaro-era where cheap PS2 games are still being made and still thrown out.

It's a middling game with some good ideas, not really all that fleshed out too great. Crafting system is a chore to find specific things you need / want, missions send you all over the place with no real reason.

It's fun, but it stretched on way too long. Introduced new items, enemies and new zones in the final section of the game, which.. felt far too late. I was slogging through it at that point because the game just kept going and going but not actually -going- anywhere.

It's a mixed bag.
