Craft The World – Heart Of Evil Review

Not bad, but it could have been so much more!

Please note that this Review may contain spoilers from the Base game

Some key points that this game add on has to offer:

1. New Game World
2. New Mechanics
3. New Recipe’s
4. New Enemies
5. New Buildings

Replayability:

Similar to the previous DLC’s, Heart of Evil shares the exact same replay value, albeit with key differences. It’s a struggle for control with the map being divided into two sections. Good Vs Evil, and endless struggle to see who will vanquish who.
Your role here is to explore the vast fortress that you find yourselves in, build a base and scavenge resources that can be found throughout the fortress. There are AI ally dwarves present that will fight independently against the evil forces with you.

Not only are there plenty of resources to be found, but there are also plenty of enemies to be found in every nook and cranny of your fortress, so as you explore to collect resources, you must also protect and guard what you have.
There is also a raid system where the forces of evil will teleport into your fortress and you will have to defend against them and drive them back.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:

It felt like I should have said more, but as fun, as it sounds, it quickly comes to an end. They did an amazing job with this new world. Its massive, and full of treasures that are just waiting to be found. From already constructed rooms and buildings to treasures. However, the sheer size of this world does not work well with the general AI of the game. Dwarves get lost or stuck for no reason, there are teleporters set up for them to help with navigation but it works and doesn’t work. Navigating this world quickly becomes difficult and tiresome.

The AI also does not function properly where your allies come in. They are a bigger threat to your defense than the actual enemy. They lack strategy and basic attack or defend function. They are essentially just cannon fodder, that ends up making the game harder. As much as I like a challenge, this current state of the game and the mechanics of how everything functions makes this DLC way too hard from the get go. You barely start the world and before you realize it you are in over your head and not prepared for the fight you find yourselves in.

If you do manage to keep yourselves alive in the beginning and the RNG allowed you to obtain the recipes and ingredients you needed to start a simple base and work on upgrading it. You will quickly realize how every raid you managed to survive along with every enemy wave you pushed back is a slow death to your dwarves. The difficulty scales up very steeply very fast which essentially takes away from the fun that the game has to offer.

This DLC has a lot of potential if they can boost the AI for the game; the AI in CTW has always been a bit lacking, so I'm hoping they can improve and even update it.

This has always been an amazing game and to date, I have well over a thousand hours in it. I was a bit disappointed to see the outcome of this DLC, especially after how much fun the previous one was, but I am positive that the developers will work on improving the game.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 Episode Two: Contemplation Review
Our problems are much bigger than we first imagined!

Please note that this Review may contain spoilers from the Base game

Some key points that this game add on has to offer:

1. New areas
2. New Weapons
3. New Raid mode stages

Replayability:

This content shares the same replay value as the base game and Episode 1, it is the continuation of the campaign. Completing it also unlocks its raid mode stages.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:

Episode 2 shows you just how bad the situation is, and given how the first one ended, it paints a picture that things didn’t go or ended too well for our heroes.

The new Episode is packed full of horror and new goodies to find. There are treasures, pouch upgrades, and some new weapons waiting for you. We met up with some old work colleges of Claire’s whilst a glimmer of hope presented itself to us.
Barry does not have much to go on, but he presses forward to find his missing daughter! The episode played brilliantly and was worth the wait, albeit the wait shouldn’t have been there, to begin with.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 Review

You are in for one hell of a night!

Some key points that this game offers:

1. Episodic play style
2. Claire and Barry are Back
3. New game mechanics
4. Character Swap
5. New enemy types
6. Assistive Co-op

Gameplay & Controls:

Big Brother, Resident Evil! You awake to find yourself trapped, there are camera’s everywhere and a strange host… The staff are all a new breed of Zombies and there are some new BOW supervisors… The goal; survive this new hell, when all is set against you!

Quite the step up from RE Revelations one. Combat and controls feel smoother this time around. There are also some new mechanics present as well. Stealth plays a vital role this time. Sneak up on enemies for maximum damage. This greatly helps when bullets are scarce, and if there is one thing that is always scarce, it is bullets!

Melee also got buffed up this time, you can charge up your melee action for superior damage, and what’s more, is that you can co-op that melee with your AI partner to really put the hurt on these new Zombies.

The game boasts assistive co-op play. The campaign is still single player but you can swap between characters throughout the levels. At some points, you will not be able to proceed without swapping characters. Claire helps Moira up on broken ladders and Moira also packs a crowbar to pry open locked chests and doors. With Barry and Natalia, she is the only one that can fit through small openings to help proceed with the levels. Cleverly designed and it totally adds to the Survival Horror aspect since neither of the co-op sidekicks are particularly strong fighters.

There is an impressive skill list that you can upgrade and unlock as you progress through the campaign. These skills really up your zombie-stopping powers. Weapon mods are also back this time around allowing you to upgrade and improve your weapon potentials.

Revelations 2 also follows the Episodic style that Revelations 1 did. I wasn’t too fond of the first one because there were too many characters and you just didn’t get enough playtime with them all. With Revelations 2 they actually improved that concept and brought it down to two characters; namely Claire and Barry. The game, however, only came out with Episode 1, with the second coming out a few weeks later.

Graphics:

The atmosphere was beautifully created to maintain the fact that this is a RE Horror title. The level layout was done brilliantly, the way the visuals tie in with the world itself is flawless and downright gorgeous.

The new zombie types are quite hideous in their own right, they did a beautiful job with our new play mates. Let us not forget the other things that prowl about. They did a fantastic job to up the horror scale on these creatures.

Character design was done just as beautifully; Each character has their own distinct appearance and animations. Lightning and shadows play a brilliant role here, they enhance the experience completely and add to the immersion.

Sounds:

Eerie, gloomy, and downright scary! Everything a RE fan wants and needs. There are sounds and shrieks for everything. You are never alone, nor do you feel alone, and that is only partly because of your ai partner. The sounds are the main player here, as they still make some strange noise in your ear to make you wonder what's around the corner!

As always the voice over artists did a stunning job with their voice over work. They brought these characters to life beautifully, adding depth, emotion, and a tone to them that fans would adore and totally love.

Replayability:

Once you played and finished the campaign, you play it again on the newly unlocked difficulties… There are a few this time around, so you are in for a real treat! Plus, the return of an older one too.

Rain mode got a massive overhaul! There are new characters, new weapons, and pretty much new everything. As new episodes are released so will their respective raid mode stages.

Update: With the final episodes released for the game, Raid mode now boasts over 15 characters and over 200 raid mode stages. That’s an insane amount of content that will keep you busy for quite a while!

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers Ahead:

Revelations 2 is truly an exceptionally great sequel to number 1. They fixed and improved a lot of mechanics that were lacking in Revelations 1.

The new Raid mode was a huge step forward, with so much new content that you'll get completely lost in it. The Levels in the campaign mode are longer than they were in Revelations 1, but that is to be expected since this time around we only have two characters in the game, and the episodes are divided into two parts. Part one being Claire and Moira, and part two being Barry and Natalia.

I loved what they did with Revelations 2, the setting is perfect, the layout and gameplay are fantastic. The story is brilliantly written and plays beautifully. The only thing I didn’t really enjoy was that we had to buy and wait for the other episodes, this is the one thing that I didn’t really enjoy. Patience isn’t the issue, it’s the fact that we get 1/4th of a new game and had to wait weeks for the rest to be released.

The new zombie types again give us new reasons to fear and dread. These are no ordinary zombies though; a new virus gives them some intelligence and manoeuvrability. They can and do use weapons if they have them, some crawl, and others can even run towards you, and these are only the basic ones. The BOW monsters are a whole other ball game waiting on you!

I really enjoyed seeing Claire in action again, the same goes for Barry, they were left dormant for way too long!
Update: Another neat feature that I enjoyed here was the time between the episode parts. Claire and Moira take place in what is the past, and with Barry and Natalia, it is six months later. What is neat here is how you can see what time has done to the place. Things rarely look the same when you visit an area that you played through with the other duo.

They didn’t reuse the same layouts either. Barry and Natalia make use of alternate routes most of the times adding new scenes to the game.

Resident Evil Resistance Review

There are tons of fun to be had, but it could be better!

Some key points that this game offers:

1. 1 vs 4
2. Character Builds
3. Procedural item placement

Gameplay & Controls:

Resident Evil 3 Remake lacks a New Game Plus mode, which was deeply disappointing. Personally, that was the one Remake I was truly looking forward to. To make up for that we have Resident Evil Resistance.

It’s a 4 vs 1 online multiplayer game with one game mode. 4 Survivors have to work together to escape from the 1, the Mastermind. As Survivors, you need to work together to keep each other alive whilst you work together finding a means of escape. To prevent your escape the Mastermind will lock doors and place nasty surprises around every nook and corner to prevent you from escaping. These range from a variety of Zombie and other BOW types, to traps and other devious tricks.
There are several different Masterminds to choose from, all popular RE villains such as Annette Birkin, Alex Wesker, and Ozwell Spencer himself! Each of them has its own unique skills and abilities. The Survivors are all a bunch of random strangers that have to band together to survive. We have several different survivors, each with their own unique abilities and skills. Adding to their capabilities, each Survivor represents a class; January Van Sant being a hacker, for example, that can take down the camera’s the Mastermind uses to deter the survivor’s progress.

Even though there are limited maps to play on, no map is ever the same. Key items are always randomly placed so it is always a search and go for these items to progress. Valerie Harmon is a key survivor to have in every match. Not only is she a healer but her ability to scan the environment for key items and resources are key to victory. She is a must have character, because the game lacks a mini-map so her ability to scan the surrounding area really is a lifesaver.

Playing as another survivor does make the lack of a mini-map feel like a nuisance but the lacking adds to the challenge and immersion. Survivor combat is rather effective but unbalanced at times. Some actions feel way too underpowered with others feeling overpowered again.

Graphics:

The game is more than just beautiful. The character models were created remarkably well. Each survivor has their own unique appearance and personality. Enemy models were given the same treatment. Whether it's our regular favourite Zombies or those nasty Lickers, they all look remarkably well designed. Level design is gorgeous! Every corridor, room, and hallway has been cleverly designed to be a battleground, or struggle for survival.

The only issue I have with the graphics is weapons fire, every now and then weapons fire will give you this feedback that makes it seem like the bullet never hit the target.

RE Resistance shares the same beauty that RE3 Remake has to a point, so you are in for visual splendour!

Sounds:

Voice over artists did a decent job with their scripts. Adding witty comments or creepy gestures as you struggle to escape or kill your experiments…

The music complements the game's tension and atmosphere magnificently.

Replayability:

As you play and complete matches, you are rewarded with RP; this is used again to buy new gear to help you in your future fights. You also rank up with the Survivor/ Mastermind you play as, and as they rank up, they unlock new skills.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers Ahead:

RE Resistance gives you a lot of Dead by Daylight vibes, essentially it is similar in concept. The gameplay is fun and entertaining, but it runs dry very quickly. Playing as the Mastermind is the real fun here. You have more control and the mission parameters are so much more unique and fun.

There are a lot of fun and unique features present. Controlling BOW’s, taking the fight to the survivors. This is quite the treat, albeit controlling them being difficult and clunky at times. There are microtransactions in the game. You can buy boosters that allow you to earn RP faster, boosters can also be earned by playing the game.

The limited maps do limit the fun quite a bit though. There's plenty of space for growth, and the overall idea is certainly appealing. This can be the making of something rather brilliant for sure. They just need to rework and improve the game mechanics.

Umbrella Corps Upgrade Pack/エージェントゴーストパック Review

More than meets the eye…

Please note that this Review may contain spoilers from the Base game

Some key points that this game add on has to offer:

1. Additional Characters
2. New Weapons
3. New Cosmetics

Upgrade Pack:

This DLC does not add any new levels or features to the game, it does however add an abundance of new goodies to your choices.

This DLC gives you six new characters. There is Leon, Chris, Wesker, Hunk, Jake, and Barry. With them comes a variety of new weapons, patches, customs colours, and emotes.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:

The Upgrade pack really adds a boatload of new content to the game, that’s for sure. The new fan favourite characters alone make it worth its price tag, which isn’t that hefty, to begin with.

The new weapons are sure to bring some joy to most of you and then there are all the new cosmetics that will give you a variety of new styles to kit out your favourite character.

Umbrella Corps Review

It’s hard to imagine that this takes place within the RE universe…

Some key points that this game offers:

1. Close Quarters Battle
2. Fast-paced competitive team shooter
3. Analog aim and cover system

Gameplay & Controls:

For an online competitive shooter, the movements are slow and quite opposite to the fast-paced combat advertised by the game. The combat itself is very boring and unimaginative. There is nothing unique to the predictable mechanics. It tries to be fun and entertaining, but it just doesn’t last long enough.

One of the worst implementations is the cover. Yes, this is a cover based shooter, but there is no place for such a mechanic here. The maps are full of zombies that are more than happy to attack anything in close proximity, and what’s better than a soldier stuck behind cover…

Movement is just as much of an imbalanced issue. Whether you are in a prone position or running normally, there is almost no difference in speed or penalty. When it comes to actual combat, we don't have the one or two bullets dead kill-time; instead, it's more Gears of War-styled, with characters whose movements are noticeably clumsier. This is made worse by the movement penalty when aiming down your sights, totally changing the concept of gunfight. Where a gunfight is supposed to be a fun-filled adrenaline rush, it becomes a boring chore, especially when the enemies end up being bullet sponges.

There are more issues, like the incredible slow reloading times, which further deters gun fighting, but overall combat mechanics are greatly lacking. The game did one thing beautifully, you level pretty fast and as you level, you are rewarded with new weapons and gear. There are cosmetics and several other fancy rewards, but with the lacklustre gameplay, this simply doesn’t save the game itself.

Graphics:

They did a very decent job bringing the older game areas into Umbrella Corps. We have the village from RE4, among several other notable places. However, we do have one issue that simply can’t go unnoticed, they are all way too cramped and it just makes the gameplay so much more taxing.

Character design was done pretty decently, adding to the beauty that is the levels we play in. One thing that the game has going for it is its visuals. They really are quite the sight. Shadow and lighting further enhances the visuals and gameplay aesthetics.

Sounds:

The soundtrack for the game isn’t bad, it does a fair job of adding some excitement to the game, but with so much going wrong for the game, it is hard to be positive when so much is negative.

There isn’t a lot of voice-over work, however, the titbits that there is was done quite decently.

Replayability:

The game hosts a variety of game modes that you can partake in. A particular mode here; the 3vs3 is one of the game modes that does the job of being fun, but quickly turns into a cramped up mess when the over populated army of the dead joins in.

Similar to kill confirmed we have another game mode where we kill Zombies to obtain DNA. The goal is to achieve the winning number before the opposing team. Some of the other game modes include defend the area, retrieval or eliminate the enemies. Nothing special about them, but the Zombies have been poorly implemented into them.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:
Spoilers Ahead:

The biggest plus that the game has is Zombies, but the way they made use of them is so poorly implemented. They missed a big opportunity here. Most of the time they added Zombies to the stages to be a nuisance instead of a third enemy team. If they did more work on the Zombie mechanics it might have led to a much better game.

The game does have a single-player campaign that consists of 20 levels where you have to accomplish the objectives with one life only. As tough as it might sound, this campaign is extremely short, and you'll find it difficult to keep playing it. The game could have been so much more, but alas this is all there is…

Resident Evil Revelations Re-Mastered HD Review

Even without a Remaster, this one will always deserve a replay!

Please note that this Review may contain spoilers from the Original game

Some key points that this Remaster offers:

1. Improved visuals
2. New difficulty mode
3. New enemy type
4. Improved Raid Mode

Re-Mastered HD:

There are quite a few improvements under the code of this game. The visuals were properly updated to match current-gen games. Textures and character models were updated as well. Back then the models of both characters and the monsters looked great. They look just as great now, the character models are very pleasing to look at and the monsters are completely hideous and monstrous, the perfect blend for any RE game.

Lighting effects were also updated along with the rendering of the game itself. Textures and objects are beautiful. The sound has also been enhanced adding to the immersion. A brand new difficulty has joined the game, Infernal Mode. The ultimate experience awaits you, with item and enemy placement remixed to offer a fresh and thrilling experience. Let us not forget the upscaled challenge that this difficulty offers. Resident evil dot net support is also available for Revelations.
Raid mode has been enhanced and thoroughly improved with numerous new additions; such as new weapons and skill sets.

MGR Gaming’s Conclusions:

I loved this game when it was released back then on the 3DS, it was breath-taking, it was new and it was almost everything I wanted in a RE game. Revelations came close to what we had back in the good old days. The new Re-Mastered HD does a great job bringing all those fond memories and nostalgia back again.

They lightly touched the game up here and there to stick to the original but making it appealing on more current gen titles. This blend was executed flawlessly. Without altering the main campaign, they still managed to add more to the game by improving the Raid mode.

If you never took the plunge and gave this game a try, then now is the perfect time. This is a full on Resident Evil experience that awaits you.
