Frogwares' Sherlock Holmes games have pretty much all been amazing, but I'm glad they decided to switch it up a bit and create a Lovecraftian game, The Sinking City features a lot of the great mechanics we've seen in those Sherlock Holmes games, and some of those even got improved.

So far, I've really been enjoying just exploring Oakmont and its peculiar residents. It feels good being in an open world, able to just go wherever you want to go and take your time doing so. I definitely prefer it over the fast travel system that the Sherlock Holmes games have, you can still fast travel in The Sinking City if you prefer that.

Other than that, there's a combat and crafting system, which are pretty basic, but make exploring more exciting, since Oakmont can get repetitive. There's also a sanity meter which you should pay attention to, which, again, makes the entire experience more exciting.

Charles Reed is a very well designed protagonist. His voice acting is good, though it can be emotionless at some times.

I have encountered a few bugs in both playthroughs, and the game runs pretty well. I do have to say that there isn't a lot of variety in the design of both the residents roaming around Oakmont and interior of buildings you can enter, and there's only a handful of different types of enemies, with some unique ones here and there, which are part of the Worshippers of the Necronomicon DLC. None of these things ruined the experience for me, but could be important to other people.

I hope The Sinking City comes back to Steam so more people can enjoy it, it's a fantastic experience and definitely worth giving a try!
