Grab it while it's not ruined by overzealous moderation by the no fun police.

Good game to play with mods(Kaiserreich especially). Vanilla HOI isn't really much fun though.
It's still worth buying JUST for Kaiserreich, if that mod ever becomes standalone or something, consider this review irrelevant.

Just play it - don't read any in-depth reviews. Just buy this game and play it.

I'm personally feeling neutral about this one, but would be pissed if it was full price:
1.Focus on replayability of "episodes"(forced dlc's) makes the first playthrough feel barely enjoyable.
2.Non-stealthy weapons are useless: shotguns, assault rifles and non silenced pistols might as well insta kill you whenever you shoot them, yet every single promotional material will tell you that "You can be as sneaky or as guns blazing as you wanna be!!!". This makes 47 feel like a wimp.
3."Story" reduced to 5 minute long videos after each chapter.
4.Square Enix's approach to selling this game probably made other people write pages long angry essays.
5.Satisfaction from killing targets is rare and you mostly just feel glad that the mission is over and done.

So, lets start with bad stuff:
1.Unstable - expect a lot of crashes, especially if you need to frequently alt-tab for some reason.
2.Bosses in apostle forms tend to have weird hit detection problems - even though you are right next to them swinging your slab of raw iron at them, their HP doesn't seem to decrease. Probably due to them having such bizzare design that their hitboxes get all kinds of issues
3.If you aren't familiar with berserk, you get spoiled during the tutorial.
4.If you are familiar but have a stick up your ass, you will surely find something to complain about :v
5.Loading times are annoyinh
Debatable 6: Price can feel steep.
Now the good stuff:
Uhhh.... everything ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ else?
I mean... you get to play as Guts, you get to FEEL what it would be like to BE Guts(the 100 man-killing aspect of him, not the PTSD), you can play as the rest of his new and old party... and Zodd since he's badass. You even get to kick Griffith's ass multiple times which will surely bring satisfaction to anyone who knows how the eclipse went. What's not to like?

Weeeeell... that was interesting.
First, the bad parts: ♥♥♥♥♥♥ grammar of the english translation and some technical issues here and there. It can get pretty annoying if you are a grammar nazi, but in my case i got immersed in the story enough to stop noticing the errors. Technical issues are mostly occasional lags, and even then happen only if your processor is using a lot of power for other things.
The most annoying feature are quick time events... i mean really? In a visual novel? And they are an instant game over without explaining what happened?
Thankfully, the story is very well constructed, and the game was cheaper than a potato(it cost 0,09 euro at the time that i bought it), so it's very hard to complain.
The postapocalyptic(or present-apocalyptic, since the apocalypse starts during the game) setting is crafted pretty well, though not without plot holes.
The characters are neat, the art style is average... not much to say here.
The biggest appeal of this visual novel is trying to figure out, together with our characters what's going on and wondering where it'll all lead.
Overall, it's yet another proof that a bunch of slavs with a budget of a six pack of vodka can craft a better game than big studios who keep ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ out "Sakura PLEASEJUSTKILLMEALREADY" titles, without even trying to do a good job.
Stay Cheeki Breeki.

A good game, but too short.
Don't buy it at full price.
Play the sidequests to get the most out of it.
And, most importantly - ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on Deus Ex facebook page so that they make a sequel/DLC... at a reasonable price. Important plot threads are unresolved and story-wise, the game feels unfinished.
Overall, I still recommend it though - if it was cheaper, it'd be perfect.

A review is old so i'm gonna add something: if your child/teen wants this game - deny them. Don't let underaged people play this franchise. I want to see less insane people, not more. And kids who played this seem to have the most retarded ideas about everything and feel the need to broadcast them to everyone.

One of the very few Visual Novels currently on Steam that CAN be recommended, even at full price.
A lot of content is available even after completing the main story.
Story itself is much longer and more interesting than in most "Normie Bait" games that put "Sakura" in their name just to sound more "Japanese" and thus, suck out money of the low-level weebs.
Gameplay elements can be a bit confusing, but tend to be fun.
The mystery mostly makes sense, is challenging and keeps you sucked into the game.
Overall, a good game, though people spamming words "hope" and "despair" all the time makes it a bit cheesy.
Also, "Lol Hope"

a very short game with an interesting story. although an hour is all it takes to 100% it, it's definitely worth the very small and reasonable price(especially if you are buying it during one of the steam sales).
