Chivalry 2 is a rare title. The base of the game is excellent; with amazing mechanics and game balance, high visual fidelity, generally good or even great DLC, and a fable setting worth following to the bitter end. If you're simply wondering if purchasing Chivalry 2 is worthwhile, the answer is unequivocally yes.

However, in an almost laughable and paradoxical way, the developers can and perhaps still are pretty damn ignorant and cheap. Almost all of the community feedback of importance - a better Social platform, bug and exploit fixes, improved anti-cheat, moderated duel servers, better servers (30hz was not enough 15 years ago, let alone in 2024) etc. - was rarely, if ever, acted on while the game was still fully live-service. Sure, servers are still online and events do still happen, but the game no longer receives full development priority and in my opinion, it never did after launch. And that's not even the long story, which is far more damning. If you're looking to support a development team that isn't run by sharks, then I'd reconsider my initial statement.

Overall, Chivalry 2 constitutes the very best live-service, multiplayer medieval melee slasher experience I have encountered, but that does not excuse its shortcomings - it exaggerates them. Let's hope Torn Banner starts to care more about its most loyal customers next time.
