Skyrim in a nutshell:
The game where you can play as vocaloids (Or cat-people with sideburns), fighting thomas the train and Machoman Randy Savage with only your trusty leek, as you explore the realms of skyrim that is full of nude maidens (Thanks CBBE), sightseeing bears that sing autotune, riding ponies, slaying spycrabs, running from explosive bacteria, and fighting tails with your trusty fart-shouts. Also, dont kill a chicken or else the village will be butthurt and work together to kill you for the sake of justice! P.S: Dont dig deep into nexus mods, you will find argonian dongs!

The overhauls to smoke grenades and the lighting is really nice. It's a nice upgrade from CS:GO, and the level editor, material editor, model tools for modders here are better than ever.

Definitely better than the current state of Overwatch 2, but there's still quite a few issues with this release of CS2 that really need to be ironed out, making this feel like a glorified open beta (that performs a bit lesser than other e-sports titles) rather than something Valve released in a polished later than the promised Summer date due to Valve Time:

1. Controller support is completely busted. This is despite the game claiming it has full support for controllers. The Steam Deck will likely be affected by this.

2. In Vulkan mode on Windows (You can get around 66% better performance going from DirectX 11 to Vulkan using the "-vulkan" command), there's really nasty shader compilation stuttering whenever you do literally anything, and as a result long hitches can result in things like inputs feeling stuck (like being stuck moving unless you jump). On Linux, the optimization in Vulkan is way more egregious. Had zero issues with stuttering in CS:GO on Linux through Wayland (With VRR/FreeSync enabled), and suddenly it's a problem here. You will want to enable VSync to smoothen out the frametimes slightly.

3. In DirectX 11 mode, even without bots, there's times where the game momentarily stutters for no good reason. Adjusting graphics options literally does nothing to fix any of the performance issues, even on a midrange Intel or AMD processor. Again, enable VSync here, and it will make things slightly less of a stutter-fest.

I'll at least give them props for using HW Independent Flip composition, so Borderless and Windowed modes effectively run similarly to Fullscreen Exclusive mode.

4. In the Workshop Tools, you'll have constant issues with indefinite hanging when dealing with model or material loading, and probably even if you dare to look at the thing wrong. Having the ability to denoise the path-tracing lighting preview would be a welcome addition, if you want to work on the level while having a preview of what the lighting will look like. Speaking of the Workshop Tools, despite the tools using Qt, Vulkan (for path-tracing), and other things, you simply don't have access to these tools with the current Linux build of the game, and you could say the same for Half-Life Alyx and their other Source 2 games with native Linux support.

5. Audio is completely broken on Linux unless you manually choose the output device in the game settings. Automatic does not work.

6. Likewise, all achievements got wiped.

TLDR: Valve could've done more performance testing with Vulkan (especially on Linux), and there's still some weird performance issues in DX11 that shouldn't be there, but once the issues listed here are fixed, it's a great upgrade from the original game which was hitting the ceiling on what Source Engine could do. But for now, I'd wait until patches drop.

So many things got removed from the game with this update, and if not for the improvements, this would be a worse downgrade than Overwatch 2.

Fun game with a ton of lore and community content, but there's a lot of things that are currently wrong with the current state of the game that makes it really hard to go back to:

1. The performance issues and downgrades (Whether they're cosmetic, have to do with animations, etc). It's not just rose-tinted glasses, the game looks significantly worse than it did at launch.

There's really no good reason that a high-end gaming desktop should have issues with TF2 nowadays, even with mastercomfig and DXVK, when TF2 Classic (a mod that attempts to recreate the 2008 TF2 experience) easily hits my monitor's refresh rate AND looks miles better. A port to Source 2 that can utilize more CPU threads AND runs on something that driver manufacturers still support (like DX11 or Vulkan), could fix a lot of these problems, but more on that later...

2. The strange decisions behind allowing cosmetics that don't fit the color and shape design theory of TF2, and that causes issues with player legibility during gameplay. Zesty Jesus has done several videos about this, and he's worded it far better than I personally could. What crazy person at Valve greenlit Wutville without even testing it first?

3. Valve's reluctance to do much about the botting situation or anything with TF2 despite the concurrent player numbers still being some of the highest on Steam. Whatever happened to that massive community update, outside of adding Versus Saxton Hale to the game officially? Like Deathrun and VSH is all I really play nowadays on community servers because the situation with bots are wild. There's even situations going on involving YouTubers being doxxed, swatted, and impersonated on servers because they call these bad actors out. It's quickly getting into territory where it should be illegal, and yet Valve is doing absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ nothing about it.

Not to mention Valve DMCA'ing a community port of TF2 (a F2P game) in Source 2, with a bunch of fixes for the animation downgrades over the years, while according to their same logic about "PrOtEcTiNg ThEiR iP" haven't done anything about the modified builds of the Jungle Inferno build of TF2 on GitHub that use leaked source code. Maybe fix Counter-Strike 2 (It's still not fixed and yet Valve wants to do another live service game that's MOBA/Overwatch/TF2 inspired that nobody wants) and make it NOT a poorly optimized stutter-fest downgrade that's worse than Overwatch 2 before you pull this crap. Sega allows Sonic fangames, some of which even contain content from their games, but it just seems like the real motive is to protect their microtransaction crate fest. Valve has literally no excuses here.

But with TF2, the mods/fangame situation (they don't even release client/server code for their single-player games anymore like with HL2/HL2DM), the situation with CS2, Valve's inconsistent moderation of Steam (on the game developer side of things), their allowance of AI generated content, etc, they're quickly losing all of the goodwill they had with Steam, their games, and the Steam Deck. Hope you go financially bankrupt, rather than creatively (c'mon, what idiot outside of a business suit thinks that a live service hero shooter MOBA with lane level design, or consulting sweet baby inc for their games is a good idea) and ethically.
