What does Dawntrail do right?
+The graphical update has been amazing, character models look less plastic and the enviroment effects look beautiful, almost feels like a new game.
+Two dye channel option has been great at allowing my customization, creativity and self-expression, though it has it's issues, more on that later.
+ The battle content has been fun, it's nothing perfect or highly memorable as some of the older ones. Expert dungeons are a step up and the first alliance raid reminds me of Stormblood and Shadowbringers series where it wasn't difficult but not a snoozefest either. The Savage tiers have been fun and improved with the second tier, can't wait for the last one.
+ The new ultimate is fun, the bugs it had on launch weren't frustrating, I've enjoyed mostly all the phases it offers.
+ Seeing Mamool Ja and the importance they play in the story was nice to see as we've been introduced to a couple Mamool Jas long ago.
+Hall of the Novie update is a welcome change for new players learning more about the battle mechanics early on.

Aside from Dawntrail specific issues, decrease in quality of narrative, characters and worldbuilding highlights other problems the game had for a long time.
-Archaic main scenario quest designs
-The field expedition content where everyone from casual to sweaty raider could play together and socialise being absent until a year later into the expansions release
-The new tribes, or allied societies as they are now called, are bland and most are just reskins of other allied societies. Moblins are Goblins but blue and love clay, Hanuhanu are just Vanuvanu but colorful feathers, Pelupelu are just children character model wearing goofy beak mask.
-Job homogenization and 2 minute meta creating boring and predictable job changes and encounter designs
-Some jobs getting only new combo finishers and other job losing parts of their identities more and more
-While the new savage tier was ok, it was extremely lenient on it's dps check, and the reason for that was since developers did not want to nerf Pictomancer, they buffed every other job to Pictomancer numbers BUT they did not tweak the hp values of savage bosses to account for these buffs.
-New blacklist system, while an improvement on paper, revealed privacy risks that are still not adressed
-Mogstation monetization is getting more aggressive and still user-unfriendly
-Seasonal events are decent but watered down to being a couple of cutscenes(remember the Valentione's mini-game?)
-Vast amount of old event items being in mogstation with 1 per character purchase is still a thing and exploits player FoMO
-5~6 years since their release and Viera and Hrothgar still can't wear hats. (apperantly there're bringing more hat support in 7.3, gotta wait & see)
-New zones are vast and look pretty but devoid of reasons to visit after main scenario quests are done except to mindlessly fate farm
-Job balance is getting worse, Picto is problematic in ultimate content where some groups are not accepting any other caster dps
-The two dye channel option is well done in some gear while in others the second dye channel just affects a non-conspicuous button or string somewhere while a huge chunk of that gear is still undyeable
-People capitalizing on housing plots with submarine FCs is still allowed to be a thing
-Series of achivements where players need to grind out of their minds without doing anything interesting or engaging with the systems of the game in different ways is still a thing and progressed even further
-6 years later and the pvp map Astralagos is still unavailable.

I don't want to open the can of worms that is DT story and everything surrounding it, it just makes me sad. One thing I can say that was the worst part for me was how Scions, our old companions ever since 1.0, have become cardboard versions of themselves, completely devoid of quirks and personalities and experiences that made them enjoyable.

I'll update my thoughts if my line of thinking changes/new major patch comes out. So far, I do not recommend getting into Dawntrail.

7.2; Not interested to play the patch, Occult Crescent comes too late, the stalk plugin issue is not resolved, BLM is streamlined further, jobs design and it's future looks even more bleak. I hope the raid's fun, the main story is engaging and people enjoy it. Finally got around to trying 7.2, Occult on the surface is fun but it's rewards are messy, tanked the marketboard and devalued rewards from previous Field Operations, grind is pushed to eleven but the zone specific powers don't feel interesting like it did in Bozja, no unique animations for phantom actions, Forked Tower queueing issue has no reason to exist since they solved it with DRS in Shadowbringers. I haven't tried Cosmic Exploration yet. Savage is really fun so far, still too flashy and overbearing on the eyes with horrible flashing effects but the pace of mechanics feel really exhilarating. SE also made cease and desist on PlayerScope plugin, while that's fine, the plugin is still out there and SE has not solved the underlying issue(maybe they will never). Recent live letter showed a lot of frustration with OC and CE, and the statements of "We balance a lot of things around gil/we didn't expect that players think that Gil is so worthless" "our dev team is getting too 'used' to things" shows years of disconnect with the playerbase & doing things by formula. It's a good step they've been made *aware* of some things now but with how some content is planned beforehand, we'll keep having the same product for some time, assuming there may or may not be changes later anyway.

Also it's clear SE is not putting the budget to take the game to new heights, despite FF14 being their biggest piggybank.

Do you like anime ? Do you like mystery visual novels with it's unique art style and a plot filled with twists, jaw dropping moments and just an all around good one with your 2d friends ?
Then immidietly buy'n play this game that launced Kazutaka Kodaka, the creator of the series, to an explosive sucsess, and keep an eye out for his next death game he'll do in collaberation with Kotaru Uchikoshi(the guy that wrote the scenario of Zero Escape series) and Masafumi Takada(the guy that made the OST of all of the Danganronpa games and the anime).
