Perhaps the perfect casual online game. At least for me. And when I say that, I don't mean that the game is at all perfect--it most certainly is not. All I mean is that the game is incredibly entertaining to casually play. A daily log on for an hour or so lets you complete some events, experiment with your build, do some challenges, and explore Appalachia (which is a pretty stellar example of map design) a bit more. It kills time in a very Bethesda way and genuinely has some pretty great moments and gameplay loops.

This is not the Citizen Kane or Jeanne Deilman of games, but it doesn't need to be in order to be fun. Yes, Fallout 1st is annoying and it has a number of features that should be in the base game locked behind it (not a subscriber, btw). But honestly, if Fallout 1st, which actually has some pretty good, fair benefits, is your most despicable example of corporate greed--you should probably get out more.

(Also, I didn't get this for free. I pre-ordered this back in the Bethesda.net launcher days.)
