I hate this game so much that I came back 10 years after last playing it to complain about it. I was talking to friends that like this game and I just started foaming at the mouth. I literally had someone watch me play it and say "wow, I've never seen such bad luck before" and sadly it was the smoothest run I had ever had. I want to like this game, but I cannot.

I keep mentally coming back to this game. The universe and feel of it is not quite like anything else out there. There's a weird dark nostalgia a get just thinking of the game, or parts of the map or even when I see a S&W or Colt Detective Special .38 in real life. Plays almost like a rougelike? It's hard to explain. It handles depression and the topic of suicide and firearms ownership in a very venerable hair raising way.

This has some of the best gunplay/gun handling in any video game. Coming from someone that works in the firearms industry who has significant experience with most of the firearms in this game, everything is incredibly well researched and executed. Even the sound/feel of something so minor as the Sig P226's double action hammer "bounce" is articulately precisely modeled like it behaves in real life. The one thing that irks me is the Glock is a far safer gun than they portray in the game, but it's been common gun lore through the 90's-00's.

Learning to handle a firearm and becoming proficient with it in this game is very similar to the learning curve of learning to handle and shoot a firearm in real life. The unforgiving nature of the firearm lead me to practicing reloads, setting up malfunctions and clearing them quickly and building the muscle memory up to do this all under stress, which there's a lot of. It's exactly what you would do if you're seriously practicing firearm handling in real life.

After I get the feel for the controls and have the fundamentals figured out, I have a lot of fun trying to play this fast pace, and get into the flow state like Mirror's Edge. (Check out Leadhead's Mirror's edge video to understand what I mean).

This game is almost identical to the first in a lot of ways and it felt like this really just became the more polished final release.

I would really like to see mod support. I think adding an open bolt smg like a Mac 11 would be functionally different and interesting enough as a gameplay mechanic that it would fit nicely into the vanilla game, and it'd be really interesting how handling a bolt action/lever action/pump action short gun would be too.

Well I feel it's time I review this. I've played this on and off for about a year. It's a solid, generally well built game for the most part.

It has its flaws But most negative reviews still have a significant amount of playtime. I think most players end up loading the game, starting a map, or continue where they left off, only to feel burdened with the amount of work they need to accomplish, and either work towards it or close the game again, not quite feeling like they're 100% finished, which is kind of the hook that keeps you playing.

It has serious lag issues when you're late game, mostly with the initial loading, making it really hard to load up a save with a lot of history behind it. I say this because even if you delete everything and have an empty map that has everything unlocked it's still a headache to deal with.

You'll constantly be reworking large parts of your map in order to move resources around to different factories or research stations and deleting large parts of map is really tedious.

I like this game but have a hard time wanting to play it. It's really something you've got to dedicate a week of multiple gaming sessions into it to get a feeling of accomplishment and advancing your output.

Recommendations to developers:
-Blueprint system. It'd be nice to have something mid game, around the time you unlock combiners/transfer tubes that can be unlocked to save/retrieve prebuilt factories. Maybe only allow these to be pulled within the same save?
-The lag needs to be addressed.
-Allow for more efficient deleting of large parts of the map. Like a click and drag rectangle that lets you remove everything in the selection.
-Let me put cart tracks on top of factories. There were a number of times that running a track over a factory would be nice. Especially because the 2nd level height is already appears to allow for it.
