I've enjoyed similar games to Dwarf Fortress over the years and always put off doing the deep dive required to play the game in it's previous state. The steam version solves that problem effectively and makes it very palatable, you'll likely still find yourself quickly memorizing hotkeys, but it isn't necessary to actually remember them because there's a GUI you can simply click through if you prefer. Great music, simple pixel UI and tons of Steam Workshop support already. Dwarf Fortress is all about the possibilities and crafting an amazing story with your burgeoning society of dwarves. You'll feel somewhat responsible for every dwarf's greatest achievements, or even when they meet an untimely demise because you designated them as the Fisherdwarf and there are crocodiles about.

Dwarf fortress is an amazing game that has been slowly built into what it is now over years and years, but the finished product is a game with literal endless replay value.

tl;dr-I was enslaved, escaped, faced racism and hate. Then I one-by-one captured leaders of my former captors and razed their cities to the ground, a Shek army at my side.

10/10 would brave the skimsands as a stickman again.

The Details:

Kenshi is hard to put into words, and isn't for everyone, but maaaaaan, for those of you that aren't filthy casuals.....what a great game! Emphasis on sandbox and survival, though it's much more. This game can take you through a thousand journeys, tell insane stories, and let you experience the rise of an empire, from the first broke dude with a dream, to a whole faction running a city and repelling bandits at your borders with harpoons. It can feel like a grind at times but Kenshi is an amazing survival rpg that flourishes if you build a squad and try to be an agent of change in this terrifying and unique post post apocalyptic world. Though it can be enjoyed running only a single character as well, the stakes are just a bit higher.

PROS:
-Dismemberment
-Smuggling Hashish
-Beep
-Robots
-Cannibals
-Cannibal hunters
-Robots that hunt humans for their skin
-Samurai
-Ninja
-Superspeed Naruto Running
-Death, often
-Enslavement (Great way to level stealth, lockpicking and....toughness..)
CONS:
-I can't enjoy the madness with friends because there is no multiplayer
-Kenshi can be frustrating and unforgiving at times
-Passion project from one main dude leaves a few bugs and clunkiness (That mods can address)

Recommendations for Max Enjoyment:
-Watch a few playthrough videos before buying
-Save scum (You can new game, continue, or load from pause menu, it isn't dark souls)
-Download Mods

If you are a fan of the ARPG genre, Grim Dawn is your next ARPG to no-life and nerd out about. Everything is handled by a development team that genuinely cares about the game and the genre. Loot, big numbers, fun combat, memorable bosses and fights, a macabre but awesome story, it's all here.

For the casual player, there is still plenty of fun to be had with Grim Dawn and it's class/skill combinations. The DLC only add more depth to class customization, loot, and dungeons to crawl. You can keep the difficulty low and still get lost in the world/have a blast fighting back all the horrors Cairn has to offer.

For the veteran ARPG player, once you hike the difficulty up you will be exactly where you want to be, min maxing damages and resistances for the big juicy fights, trying to get the biggest numbers, and most prized drops.

Grim Dawn does everything right for an ARPG. IMO it crushes the competition, and the price tag with all of the DLC (Highly recommended) is worth every penny. The hours you can pull out of this game might make you wonder what you're doing with your life, but never mind that, just slurp up that next untouched meal and keep slaying, Cairn needs you.

Definitive Edition Update:
This is a beautiful and quirky RPG with a unique world full of all manner of challenging enemies and neat loot to suit your build. The story is interesting enough as well, but there are quite a few survival focused mechanics that are tied to the way the story is meant to be told, these add a definite layer of complexity and forethought to gameplay along with the extra challenge.

PROS:
-Visually appealing
-Unique world and enemies
-Sweet adventuring soundtracks
-Rewarding combat, every fight feels serious
-Varied selection of skill trees and gear
-DLC comes standard with DE and reaaally expands the game and story
-Absolutely SHINES as a Co-op game

-DE had a TON of QOL improvements, and made certain mechanics more transparent to the player

CONS:
-Until you get the feel of it, combat can be awkward and challenging
-Some combinations of skill trees are definitely stronger than others
-The survival mechanics leads to a lot of time spent in menus, which I don't mind but others might
-You either have to pay a LOT of attention to every detail/dump a ton of hours in or just read the wiki to really understand certain elements of the game early on (And that means spoilers)

-The endgame gets pretty grindy in the form of gathering materials, but you can't ignore it if you want the endgame content and to handle certain bosses with ease

-You HAVE to pay attention to food, water, weather, diseases, curses, buffs/debuffs, mana, health, stamina and burn for all three as well. This is fine if you understand it's a survival RPG, but this turns some off from the game.

That's about it, I definitely recommend the game for any serious RPG fan, it's been compared to the souls games though I'm not a big fan of that comparison. Just understand what you're buying because this game can be challenging at times, and definitely requires a higher bandwith while playing than say something like Skyrim or a Zelda styled RPG.

I truthfully only played the first Risk of Rain for a few hours, I wasn't patient enough to get good. This game is a sequel that is amazing, very enjoyable, and will have you doing run after run to either unlock content/achievements or just to have a good run/try to get a specific one. It really lived up to the hype for me, and while dying is very soul crushing, I almost always simply exhale, and start the next run. New content is constantly being developed, but the game is already extremely fun.

Definitely has it's differences from Civ 5, and I loved Civ 5, but I do enjoy Civ 6, with all of the DLC which can be pretty pricey. Overall it's definitely worth it on sale, and if you have Civ 5 you can get Civ 6 Digital deluxe for 20 bucks. Tons of mechanics work differently, but once you get the hang of it, it is still a very fun Civ game to play with plenty of options.

Let me start by saying, I've never been the gamer to sink tons of hours into grinding. The most enjoyable grind i've ever had were some of the early Pokemon games, even those pushed it, and I have tried many a MMO. Most of the times MMO's get tiresome and eventually boring to me. Warframe is anything but that, It doesn't feel like a free to play game at all. It is easy to pick up, but requires some experience to be really good at. It's mainly PvE, it does have a bit of PvP, but at almost 200 hours in, I have yet to touch the PvP because there is still so much left to do. You can easily make plat (the real world money currency) without dropping a dime, by selling the drops you get to other players who need them, not gonna lie though, I gave these guys some of my real money, because I like pretty things, and this is a wonderful game. To anyone who looked at Warframe when it first came out and dismissed it, just know it's an entirely different beast now, and worth the play. There is a ton of content, and the Devs continue to add more quality content to the game, the market is very much alive, all in all, for a free to play game, it is worth the download.

If you're growing tired of most f2p and MOBA's, but still want that feel you had when you first dove in, here it is.
If you haven't played bloodline champions, it doesn't matter, if you have, this game only makes you happier. This is a fast paced arena brawler, that will leave you shaky when you pull off that near impossible 1 v 3 clutch win, and your team will love you. One of those games that if you lose, it's viable to change your strategy a bit next round and come out on top. 2 v 2 and 3 v 3 match types. Also tons of free loot and customization, just for playing. You don't have to spend a dime to look good while you're kicking ass.

Survival crafting passion project from one kid. Fun as hell, with the typical encounters you might run into online in a survival crafting scenario. You can play LAN with friends or offline as well, there's zombies, loot, crafting, skills and absurd times to be had.

It was free but after a solid 20 hours in, I donated because it was well deserved. Have no idea how populated servers are now, but for a free game its worth a shot if you're in the mood.

If you want a classic style open world RPG with fun combat, a few traps & puzzles, gear, playstyle variety, and tons of quests, this has you covered.

It's like Oblivion and Fable had a baby, but definitely its own thing. I absolutely enjoy the story and think this game is one of those hidden in plain sight gems. It got overshadowed by a few other games on release, but I'm so glad I gave it a try and you might be too.

If you have a decent capacity for quicker combat and dodge rolls, this game is pretty easy even on the hardest difficulty. Yet the game still manages to keep you very engaged in combat and allow for some super satisfying combos and finishes.
