I had a review that I wrote a while ago, but it was chaotic and messy lol so I decided to write a new one because of how passionate I am about this game

Warframe is like that supportive big bro that you can always come back to

This is the only game I have that successfully:
1.) Makes me want to come back to it after playing other games. It's always a breath of fresh air
2.) Constantly somehow improving despite being released in 2012
3.) Makes me want to willingly spend money (for cosmetics/optionals) to support the devs, without being p2w. They listen to the players, actually play their game, and are hilarious
4.) Does not have a player base was a detriment to my own sanity and/or efficiency. I don't have to rely on others so much and have so much freedom

Let's focus on my first point: I always find myself coming back to this game. Why? We have it so good here
  • The reward for my time is insane: I rarely feel like my time is wasted even at endgame. I'm always obtaining something I can use, whether it to sell for plat to buy stuff I want, or resources I'll continue using down the line. While you grind for a specific resources, you gain other stuff at the same time
  • The nearly endless, incredible fashion & customization: I am a crazy person when it comes to these things and it checks all the boxes. The design, color choices, QOL/systems, variety, even affordability. Then there's tennogen, player-made cosmetics which are somehow also reasonably priced. Even their in-game cosmetic prices are reachable
  • The freedom: The sky is the limit in terms of how you want to handle a mission. AoE nuke, CC, shoot with guns, cheese it and afk, challenge yourself, or optimize a group. And the best part is, most of that is still achievable if you're solo
  • The community is unmatched: I have never played any online game in my entire life with a community as solid as this one. In almost 5k hours, even in my first 100 hours, I have met an incredible amount of selfless and nice players. Gifting items, helping out in a mission, spending hours with you to help you out, and answering questions genuinely without being rude. Not only that, but most players are extremely pleasant to talk to and frequently put a smile on my face. The only thing is that there's I guess.... brain lag, so if you want peak efficient runs or speedruns with pugs, good luck (NOTE: I find premade groups are very different and less problems). Also, be warned that crossplay will result in ~5s loading time increase to 15-30s loading time if you have console players in your pug lobby, but that's probably out of the control of the player
  • The Devs: Digital Extremes actually plays their game, and you can really tell. They have weekly twitch streams where they play the game, do showcases, talk about updates, ♥♥♥♥ around, and they're hilarious. Hands down my favorite game dev team of all time and they have my utmost respect that I'm happy to give them money
  • It enforces my collecting and hoarding addiction: It's so easy to collect ♥♥♥♥. And they're pretty good about not being a huge pain in the ass
  • The UX: The pure visuals, design and fluidity of everything including movement, UI, UX, gunplay, mobility, etc. Outstanding, and it's a very optimized game that looks insanely nice. Plus no BS launching wait time/intros, straight to the point to get in-game
  • QOL & game state: We are constantly receiving a buttload of QOL fixes, stuff that other games don't bother touching (big increase in this since Reb took over), and somehow still constantly improving the game's state since 2012 which is very impressive to me
  • No p2w pressure: Yeah I know p2w is subjective, but let me say it how it is here and you can decide for yourself. It's actually quite achievable and reasonable to obtain plat in-game by trading items with other players to sell and the user-made warframe.market is an excellent tool. You can obtain everything in-game, aside from cosmetics and a few founders items that are mostly cosmetic, and everything required to get a player to endgame and beyond is obtainable by playing the game. Slowly at a casual pace, or at a more normal pace if you put in the expected time investment. There's gotta be a drawback somewhere and personally, I think all this for JUST a time investment is hell of a deal. Warframe/weapon slots, cosmetics, mods, capacity upgrades, all obtainable in-game and don't forget events, ongoing missions with rewards like nightwave & sortie, vendors, etc.
  • Storytime: Can't forget the actual solid story/lore, characters, and incredible soundtrack & OST. I honestly can't say I've cared or been able to pay attention (due to interest) to any other looter shooter or mmo story
  • No FOMO: You can easily pick up where you left off if you take a break, and dive right back in. I've taken between 1-3 year break gaps and still had a blast catching up and don't really fall behind
  • Playing with others: No forced reliability on other players (looking at you, Lost Ark and TFD). It's so nice. I can solo the ♥♥♥♥ out of most things or gitgud and learn how to. IMO it's more fun with a buddy, but you don't have to worry about people ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up most of the time (exception some pug missions but you generally don't really lose ~40 mins of progress like you do in other games raids (cough Lost Ark cough). When I do play with people, it's mostly pleasant (they're just slow) and there's only a few game modes where they're being annoying and tend to ♥♥♥♥ it up, but it's quite rare to be detrimental enough to actually fail the mission)
  • Cheesing: The encouragement for efficient, meta, cheesing builds is hilarious. Honestly as a veteran and endgame player, half the time I want brain off, chill, and blow ♥♥♥♥ up. If I want to try hard and a challenge, there's great resources and groups for those types of game modes that are quite enjoyable and interesting, especially between the playerbase and extremely solid wiki. You can also make old/"worse" weapons better through different means, so it's not like you'd feel forced to use the same 3 meta weapons

The most common complaint I see from players is at a certain point, near or at endgame, there is a lack of things to do. As a vet and endgame player myself, there is a LOT you can do. I have been able to be creative and find things to do that are enjoyable for myself, but this is also easier with a friend. Some people don't feel like doing that or put the effort in and then take a break, which is also okay too. That and the grind can be numbing if you let it; there are so many ways to make it interesting, so to be completely honest, it's mostly in the players hands whether they want to spice it up or not and create goals for themselves. At my slowest points, I have even loitered in recruiting chat, helping random players with stuff they need help in, which is also a very rewarding feeling and experience :)

Edit: Forgot to mention lately they've made huge improvements to the new player learning experience for anyone concerned about that. There's still a bit of a learning curve but it's in a much better state between that and their own wiki

Edit 2: Note that steam time is based on total in-game time, and not mission time which has its' own tracker in the in-game profile stats. There is still a lot you can do outside missions, such as decorating, customizing, modding, building loadouts, navigating/trading vendors across towns, planning riven unveils, and buying/selling with players

We have it so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good here. And there really is no catch besides being a time investment unless you don't mind a slow pace. What is this game anyway? We have no idea either but it has my heart forever and to me no other game in this genre comes close
