Early Access Review
Even after only 3 hours of playing DESOLATE, I can tell you this game does it right. The prolouge pulled me in, and ever since I hit the play button I was interested. Unlike most survival horror titles that just drop you in and say "Go do stuff," DESOLATE doesn't do this to you.

It actually tells you what you need to know before you get into the action with a tutorial, and that makes it more enjoyable to play because you have a solid idea of what you're doing, how to get around, and what you may want to do when starting off.

I'll keep these short, and to the point.

Atmosphere

You ever feel like you're being watched? Hunted even? Then you might want to look behind you. Or maybe you dont because after all, you just might be.....

Graphics

DESOLATE is simply beautiful, regardless of it being day, or night, it's just pretty to look at. That's all I can really say about this.

Good Horror

The nicely done and spaced out jumpscares not only add to the horror theme here, but it makes the game feel genuinely unsetlling and disturbing; the effect a Horror title should have on you.

Crafting

The crafting system has a small amount of content right now and needs to be grow, but it functions great and it feels fun to make things that aid in your and your friend(s) survival. I'm sure they will expand it in future updates, like everything else though.

Weapons

This one is simple. You'll find weapons around the game that aid in your survival. They're very powerful but can weigh you down and ammo for them is very scarce. So make your shots count, or don't shoot them at all.

An Actual Stealth System

As someone who's a strategist and loves stealth gameplay overall, this is one of the best parts of DESOLATE for me. You can hide from enemies and wild life, throw rocks to distract them and sneak past. Don't want to waste ammo, or you're low on HP and can't craft medicine? Use your wits and creep by.

Skills

Things such as crafting upgrades, less noise when sneaking, stamina regen speed increse and other cool things. Not needed to survive, but it adds to the experiance.

Emotion System

Feeling a little depresed? Maybe you feel Anxiety crawling up your back? Hopefully you find something to help with that.

Optimization

The only real issue of the game, that I imagine will be fixed soon. You'll drop frames often, and you'll lag when you shouldn't. However, at the time of this review, DESOLATE has only been released for a days time. This problem shouldn't be around for very long.

Overall

DESOLATE is awesome, and I can't wait to see where it goes in the future. It has everything I've been looking for in a Survival Horror title for years. Buy it, and play it with friends. You won't be disapointed in your purchase.
