Like you reading this review, I too have a pile of $60 games that I regret purchasing over the years. This is not one of those.

Early Access Review
Man, this game is good. Despite ticking the boxes I like (roguelite, ARPG elements, visually beautiful), I held off on buying it for a long while because I typically don't like buying early access stuff. I'm glad I finally picked it up!

It plays very fluidly, with a ton of different fun builds. Combat starts fair and gets frantic after a while. The newest update adds a lot more variety to enemies and makes the game more difficult overall, which is a plus. Overall it's in a great spot; one of the very few games i'd recommend even in early access.

Early Access Review
It's different from S1, and not exactly what I would have hoped for. But the developer is actively listening to and engaging with the community on many fronts, and the game shows a lot of promise. Looking forward to seeing how it develops through early access.

Simple, effective, and a fair price. Not much else you could ask for.

The visuals remind me of playing Infantry Online way back in the day. The combat is much faster paced and visceral, though. It's a lot of fun. The difficulty ramps up rather fast, but that seems to be balanced against slowly unlocking perks and just learning items and enemies, similar to most roguelites.

Well worth the asking price.

EDIT: another 100 hours in... yeah, it's fantastic. Debatably the best indy/roguelite i've ever played. Can't wait for the sequel!

Is it as good as XCOM 2? No, certainly not. And for $10, or even $20, that's ok.

I like the idea of Firaxis using Chimera Squad as a way to test new ideas. Some of them were neat (playing with "bad guy's" abilities), while others I wasn't too fond on (dropping the world-strategy layer for a smaller scale). Some were a mixed bag (character turn sequencing). The changes as a whole were maybe a bit more more of a departure from traditional XCOM than I would have liked, but in general I think experimentation is good for this genre.

Overall, the game was good for what it is. I could see replaying it on my Switch or cell phone in the future.

Bought the game on sale a long while back, played it for half an hour, and just wasn't feeling it.

Once Doom Eternal came out, my interest was piqued again, so I decided to give it another shot. It seems I quit right before it really starts picking up. The weapons are great, the speed of the game play is perfect, and the music... the music just makes the game, really.

If I had to list some downsides, I would say that the story isn't going to blow you away at any point, and the Doom Marine being portrayed as a ancient demon slayer but looking like a modern soldier comes off odd. If you're not familiar with the story of the previous games (which are also pretty light story-wise themselves) then it feels pretty corny. The map was also a bit difficult to navigate at times, and I backtracked a bit more than I would have liked.

Still, the game nails the visceral combat feeling and sound. Definitely recommend.

Absolutely fantastic turn-based strategy game, and a great base for modders to create their own Battletech fantasy universe in. I've played through the Campaign and a full Career mode now, and after 200 hours in the game i'm just starting to dabble with mods.

A little light on content even with the first DLC, especially in comparison to the Battletech universe as a whole. Whats there is good, though. The fundamental turn based play combined with importance of direction and being able to damage specific parts of mechs really make for a nuanced, enjoyable experience. Future DLC will hopefully continue to flesh out an already great game.

Well worth the asking price.

This game is a ton of fun. Graphics are excellent, and the combat feels really exciting and varied. I'm only about half way through the main story currently, but the sidequests and fun, and the dynamic of the nemesis system keeps me entertaining just screwing around with orc captains for hours.

Well worth it, especially for the $19.99 i paid on black friday.
