As a bargain game, it's not bad. The graphics and music are well-done, and the dialogue is amusing.

The gameplay is a bit simplistic for my tastes. The enemy AI often drafts its dice poorly (probably on purpose to give you a chance), frequently allowing you to deal damage safely, or at least defend and bide your time. Even on Hard difficulty, you are showered with so many consumable items and chances to heal, being forced to "trade damage" is still very safe. I was only ever defeated about three times across all my play time, and all three were due to me misreading the numbers rather than being in an impossible situation.

If you are an experienced gamer, start on Hard mode. The other difficulties will risk being boring.

It gets an overall thumbs-up for the price. Just keep in mind that when you buy a bargain game, you are paying for the sprite art and chiptunes rather than a sprawling epic.

It's actually a pretty decent game, and I'm not saying I won't play it more after giving this review. But the behavior of the developers is utterly despicable, and it gets a thumbs-down for that reason alone.

Positive review, but with grounded expectations about what you're getting.

This is more a puzzle game than strategy. The AI is completely algorithm-based and will have the same output for a given input. The sole exception is the final level where there is (very annoying) RNG that will determine how many times you're clicking Restart. While each puzzle is entertaining to figure out, there's not much replay value.

I've got pretty sizable experience in this type of game (Incredible Machine, Into the Breach, etc.), so I was able to easily reach the end in about 3.5 hours without trouble. Going back and wrapping up all the Steam achievements took an additional 3 hours. Your mileage may vary if puzzle/strategy is difficult for you.

The graphics have a very pleasant and unique "hand-drawn" art direction, like you're looking at mobile ink on paper. It's not high-fidelity, but the artists knew what they wanted to do, and I respect that.

I was not impressed by the story. On each level, the narrator says a couple sentences about what's going on. The problem is, almost all of it can be summarized as "The Prophet is going to this place now," or "People are scared of the Howl," or "Civilized areas are in disrepair." Without spoiling specifics, the ending had one sentence and then a brief art sequence depicting one of the most "esoteric happy endings" I've seen in a long time. It's the kind of ending that makes you react: "Really?"

For the low price tag, it was still a fun bit of puzzle solving. But absent any surprise content updates, I'm probably not ever going to pick it up again.

Despite its many shortcomings, I was actually kind of enjoying the game. But then I got banned for 1 year for, quote, "unauthorized program detected".

I have never, not even for a millisecond, cheated or attempted to cheat at Warhaven.

And when I saw that message, my main reaction was "Meh." I don't care enough to dispute it, change to a new account, or anything like that.

Bye, Warhaven.

Not impressed by the September 7 patch. I will keep an eye on Twitch to see how the most dedicated players handle it, but I think it's a huge step backward. I am willing to revise my review if my opinion changes.

If they at least added solos back in, it would be a step in the right direction.

If you've seen Left 4 Dead before, you should know the drill. Small elite team against the never-ending hordes. This one has a class system with different abilities and loadouts that you can experiment with and level up over time.

I only played during a free weekend, but I think I saw everything I needed to. The 12 campaign maps are virtually interchangeable. The only difference is that you're fighting mostly xenomorphs in 6 maps (which run straight at you), mostly zombies in 3 maps (which run straight at you), and mostly androids in 3 maps (which turn the game into Gears of War).

I had the good fortune of getting decent teams on higher difficulties. Our survival was based around camping for prolonged periods in chokepoints. In fact, that's what the game is largely about mission after mission. Going through narrow hallways, reaching a big room, and having a big fight before you can proceed.

The reason why Left 4 Dead and Vermintide can remain fresh for so long is the unpredictability. Aside from the big finale events, you never know when or where a horde could arrive. If there's no chokepoint to hide in, you have to make do with what's around. It's exciting.

Aliens: Fireteam Elite is not exciting. The higher I went in difficulty, the more boring it got. I wanted to give it every possible chance, and it kept disappointing. Camping in a chokepoint 5 times is not challenging. But the alternative is to get surrounded and torn apart in an indefensible location, and that's even worse.

The game also has some severe logistical problems. The matchmaking is horrid. Good luck finding a pick-up group for any specific campaign mission. The quick match is slightly better. There is no mid-mission joining, so if someone disconnects, they're permanently replaced with an insufficient bot teammate. If the host disconnects or ragequits (and there's not any way I could tell to be certain who the host is in a random group), you're just booted outright. These are not short missions, either. It's a 25-30 minute time commitment.

I would never buy this at any price, and I didn't particularly want to keep playing this at the end of the free weekend either.

My first impression is that it's an original-Hearthstone clone (before Hearthstone had roughly fifty expansions) primarily based on combo cards. There are relatively few cards that are just "generally good", and even they can't hold a candle to some of the combos that offer huge benefits.

This kind of combo-based gameplay logically results in one or the other player abruptly getting an insurmountable lead rather than having tactical trades over several turns. It's also missing hero powers, which are common in other Hearthstone clones for good reason -- because they mitigate some bad card luck and help support a greater strategy.

The interface is also not particularly good and is missing basic quality-of-life stuff. For example, the opponent appears to be holding only either zero or one card in their hand, and you must mouse-over to get the exact count. If you're going to show it, why aren't they fanned out? This is basic stuff.

Also a bad move to start the early access without Sea Brawls, which was at one time entertaining in November 2021 and has more potential than the 1v1 CCG here.

I don't recommend that anyone play this.

Unless you are a top-of-the-line Top 1% uber-pro at FPS games, you will likely find each drop to be very random. You could spend 30 minutes scouring the island and never see another player, or be subjected to a sudden snipe or ambush from behind a tree or corner at any moment. Or you could inflict the same on others if you feel like sneaking at a snail's pace or camping around somewhere, given that the sound of sprinting is insanely loud and can be heard with perfect clarity through any obstruction.

Looting is very random. The missions and quarters upgrades want you to get many copies of certain items. On any given drop, the best places to loot those items could be already cleaned out, completely untouched, or have players swarming over it. Hunting for 12 copies of an item that mostly spawns in one zone becomes a slog as you cross the entire map to find the place completely empty.

The gunplay, especially low-level gunplay, is not particularly good. A lot of fights end with both sides standing and emptying a whole magazine at each other. If one side gets the worse end of the deal before retreating or getting behind cover, the low-level healing items are so slow that it's easy to be rushed down and finished off. The higher-level healing items mitigate this somewhat and create the opposite problem of both sides taking sniper rifle potshots at extreme distances while anyone can heal back to full very quickly (and usually takes 20+ healing stims because why not?).

This game mixes solos and groups of any sizes. It's a nice notion that a solo player can take out a group and collect that much more loot. Good luck actually pulling that off unless the group is much less skilled than you, in which case they won't have anything worth looting.

The developers are completely out of touch with reality, much less able to focus on what this game needs. I've been largely uninterested in continuing to play this for several weeks (aside from collecting dailies), but I was still keeping track of news and updates to see if there'd be any improvement. No more. I have zero trust that this game will meaningfully improve from its sorry state.

This used to be a good game, but it and Fatshark have really gone downhill. Don't waste your time, and don't give them your money.

I'm sure nobody will read this among 70,000 other reviews. That's fine. It's the "No" vote that counts.

Don't judge a book by its cover. This is a much more entertaining game than the somewhat minimalist interface would suggest.

This is basically a roguelike, RPG, monster beatdown divided into isolated 5-20 minute missions. There are 10 classes, 13 missions, plus hard mode for each mission (which are like a whole 13 new missions), plus campaign mode, plus a bunch of relics to unlock. If you are a completionist type of player, it could easily take 100+ hours to conquer every challenge with every class.

The mechanics altogether feel mostly balanced. There may be a few overpowered or underpowered things here and there, but nothing serious.

While the dice are the stars of the game, the abilities in the bottom-right corner are entertainingly powerful and help to smooth over bad luck. Some of the relics you can opt to take in advance range from simple bonuses to twisting the gameplay rules.

I thought the characters (heroes and monsters both) looked a little odd at first, but the style started to grow on me the more I played. I much prefer that it all has some personality rather than being overly plain. It's always fun to see the hero's unique pose when executing a very powerful attack.

I'm really enjoying this as a "chill" game. Something to be played on a laptop touchpad or while multitasking.
