Superbly entertaining online co-op game for up to four players from the developers of Magicka. Also lets you play local co-op in online sessions with other people, something seen far too rarely.

Feel like complete bad asses with your friends when you perfectly execute challenging, procedurally generated missions.

Make mortal enemies of your friends when you stab them, grenade them, get them killed with your turrets or drive over them with your tank/bike/walking robot thingies, thanks to Helldivers' full friendly fire.

Stuff that's not so hot about the game include a vast amount of gear locked behind paid DLC, some of which is arguably necessary for tackling the highest difficulties.

Much like Magicka, this game's probably a rather lonely and sad experience if you want to play it singleplayer.

Also if you're a graphics afficionado who demands your €2000 PC get a full work out running your games, this is not the game for that. It wouldn't hurt to have some options for higher resolution textures and quality lighting and such. (You rarely have time to stop and really reflect upon this between the battles, though)

Couchy's thoughts on Civ VI:

Great base game that innovates on the classic Civilization formula in many areas. It is genuinely fun to 'learn to civ' again for the x'th time, but bugs, features that you'd expect strangely missing, an especially helpless AI for the opponent Leaders as well as blatant exploits gradually do their part in making the whole exercise increasingly pointless.

Great game. Needs a great deal of bugs and exploits fixed. As well as features missing from V put back into VI WITHOUT making it part of the next DLC, thank you very much. It also needs said improvements incoming sooner rather than later, as I feel I've completely wasted the last 15-20 hours I put into the game after bugs ruined the goal of victory I had been working towards since the start. Don't see myself picking this title up again until it is in a better condition. Huge let down, at this price point you expect a game to be released in a much better shape than this.

While the single player AI soon becomes annoying to deal with to the point you soon stop caring to even read what they say when they contact you, Civ VI in multiplayer has so far been a great experience. We had some occational disconnects during the first days after launch, but have not experienced any multiplayer specific game stopping bugs or desyncs.

Still gonna recommend the game though, its very fun despite all the flaws and shortcomings I whine about. Going to be a Civ game for the times if it gets the many fixes and improvements it needs.

If you somehow haven't played Skyrim before, don't like spending hours fiddling with graphics mods and have a reasonably fast computer, this is probably the version you'll want.

It seems most likely this version was developed purely for having Skyrim available on the current gen consoles, honestly the PC version feels very much like the older version except for some nicer shaders/lighting/shadows that you'll need a pretty decent computer to take full advantage of.

If you somehow don't know what Skyrim is, it is an RPG originally released in 2011 mainly appealing for its open world freedom to do whatever you want. You can specialize your character however you like and lose yourself for hundreds of hours exploring the huge game world and its many stories and quests, without even touching the main story line of the game. Combat, especially melee, feels a bit simple and dated now but it is still quite enjoyable for me personally.

Differences between Skyrim SE and the original:

Pros:
- 64 bit game client, which runs better and potentially makes much more demanding mods possible.
- DirectX 11
- Improved shaders, lighting and shadows
- You no longer get stuck in the bloody stairs in your Breezehome player house. ><
- You can Alt-Tab again without arcane voodoo rituals!
- Its Skyrim

Cons:
- Almost complete lack of effort by the devs to fix the THOUSANDS of bugs and glitches in the original game; Unofficial fix patches are still very much a requirement
- Many existing mods for the original still need to be made compatible with this version by their authors
- Most textures are 2x upscaled for some bizarre reason, only accomplishing to take more space on your disk while offering no more detail than in the original game
- Almost all the audio is in a new, heavily compressed format which sounds worse than the original game, immediately noticeable
- Another push by Bethesda to move people's modding needs from nexusmods/steam workshop over to their own services

So this all sounds like a very mediocre product, right, so why the thumbs up ? Because its still Skyrim, and I'll never stop loving it. <3

A fast paced shooter with responsive and challenging gameplay, differing from other games in the genre in that instead of flying up vertically or moving sideways, as the name implies you're falling down a well. It might not sound as much, but this gives Downwell an original spin with your character using his gunboots to navigate while falling at breakneck speeds.

It has a lot in common with other roguelite shooters, with its procedurally generated levels and finding/buying random upgrades as you go.

Rounding it all off Downwell is presented with a minimalistic art and sound design that somehow manages to appeal to me with its 3 colour palette and chiptune music.

If you like retro shooters or are just in the mood for some nostalgia, Downwell comes strongly recommended. Oh, and it only costs like €2.

This game combines two of the best things in life, roguelikes and awesome music.
A little tricky right at the start, but once you've learned the enemy patterns the skill ceiling is quite manageable.
Very satisfying to play when everything clicks, and you slay dozens of monsters to the beat.
If the included music isn't good enough you can add custom music as well, so you can bounce around the dungeon to phat Beethoven beats instead if you so desire.

There's a few things in life mankind is just not meant to comprehend.

Such as:

Why does Killing Floor 2 currently have only 41% positive reviews? This game is the most entertaining co-op horde mode zombie-shoot-athon I've played.

Also, why is KF2 is Early Access? This game feels polished to a spit shine.

These are things I don't understand.

If I have one negative thing to say about KF2, it is the presence of those idiotic loot crates you need to buy keys to unlock.

Outside of that; If you enjoy shooting, slashing and exploding zombies with your friends until the town has been painted red, there is no way you are not going to have a lot of fun with this game.

ToS is a F2P Korean MMORPG focused on killing all the things with big bangs and explosions of big numbers covering the whole screen.

The Good stuff:
  • Beautiful mix of 2D and 3D art, in many games this just looks weird but ToS nails it perfectly and looks gorgeous.
  • Awesome soundtrack, several hours worth of varied music that one can grind for hours to without it getting stale.
  • Easy controls that work well both with keyboard and mouse or a gamepad, and very satisfying combat with attacks and spells that have 'impact'. Unleashing devastating aoe attacks on large groups of monsters doesn't get old.
  • Character building has a lot of depth. Character levels increase base power with stat increases and every 15th class level you choose new or higher tiered sub classes, and as a result ToS offers a rare depth of character customization.

Bad stuff:
  • P2W. (This is debated. With an expensive monthly premium token you get access to a movement speed buff, +30% XP boost, trading restrictions lifted, and head enchants with stat increases which are all clearly P2W in my book)
  • Some servers are drowning in lag or down for maintenance for long periods of time.
  • Bots and gold sellers are everywhere.
  • Compared to the beta builds, monsters spawn rates are SEVERELY reduced. In many places much more time is spend sitting around or searching for mobs, than actually fighting things. Also means it takes a truly masochistic soul to even attempt to complete many of the item collections.
  • Very limited character creation, all you get is male/female, one of four classes, and choose your hair style.

ToS shows incredible promise for being a long staying and successful F2P mmorpg once the launch issues with bugs and server stability gets ironed out. IMC also desperately needs to adress the monster spawn rate situation.

So with all these negatives listed why is this game still a thumbs up from me? Cause despite it all, ToS is still an immensely enjoyable game for me that I'm having a lot of fun wasting away my hours on!

Early impressions, proper review to follow:

F2P TCG clearly made with great care from the developers. Single player RPG like campaign, various tournaments and play modes, card trading auction house, CHAT on a very robust game client that's a joy to be on.

PVE and versus matches use separate decks and progression. Compared to some other F2P card games out there, HEX is quite a bit heavier on the monotonous gold grinding for purchasing cards/packs, especially before you collect enough cards to make a cheap competitive deck.

Take notes, Wizards of the Coast. THIS is how it's done.

If you have even a passing interest in CCG/TCG's, and haven't tried HEX, DO SO NOW.

As always, I can't expect everyone to agree with a subjective review, but if you decide to thumb it down I would appreciate hearing what should be improved!

Hammerwatch
2D Dungeon Crawl Action RPG
Developed and Published by: Crackshell
Released: Aug 2013

General Impressions:
Hammerwatch is a well crafted and entertaining traditional top down 2D action game in the style of Gauntlet. Alone or online with up to three friends, choose one of 6 different classes and work your way through Castle Hammerwatch, filled with traps, secrets, and of course thousands of monsters to destroy, while spending your hard earned gold on upgrades for your characters.

Hammerwatch is at its normal or hard difficulties a punishing, yet rarely unfair game that gives a real sense of mastery as you get better, but it also has an easy difficulty as well as custom mutators you can set to tailor your game experience exactly how you like it.

The game is presented in simple top down 2D sprite graphics that have a retro feel to it, which may be offputting to some but I personally adore the art style. The controls are simple, the action is fast and the Castle itself is very well designed with tons of secrets and puzzles to solve between all the killing.

I'm having a great time playing this game, at time of writing having finished the main game in a private co-op group and just getting started on the (free) expansion. While the game is fun if you're going it alone, it definitely shines the brightest in multiplayer, especially if you want to play a melee character as certain situations are very, very tricky to pass without proper ranged damage.

While I haven't looked at it myself yet, there is also a level editor included and the Steam Workshop has a whole bunch of community created adventures you can play, potentially adding a heckton of hours to the longevity of the game.

If you see the game at a discount somewhere I can safely recommend a purchase if you like some throw back, uncomplicated dungeon crawling action. Especially so if you have a few friends you can pass around 4 pack copies to and drag along for the fun!

This game has a nasty memory leak that will cause crash to desktop within 15-30 minutes of play. No known fix.
