10/10 sequel to someone that played the old 3DS game. Honestly may end up bring my GOTY. QOL improvements alone would have made it better, but now there is a whole open world continent with personalized level scaling per zone, base building, procedurally generated endgame dungeons for nearly endless replayability, and 2 more lives to grind out.

This game runs phenomenal on steam deck OLED.

A few things to consider however:

• If you want to switch from handheld to docked, close the game and reboot from steam to prevent scaling issues.
• Change the settings to high, then disable motion blur and depth of field for a sharper image. I noticed no performance dips doing this, but I do not play with an FPS counter.
• With steam input remapping, you can change the back triggers to function as the "A" button, allowing you to rapidly alternate them for faster tapping in crafting mini-games. I also remapped R2/sprint to one of the L4/5 buttons so I can run while freeing up my right hand.
• Get ready to invest in a portable power bank because this game will suck you in for HOURS at a time

Overall very much recommended.

I have had a single crash in 50 hours. Game has ran fine on my hardware albeit high CPU usage. I am not using the HD textures. Is low rank easy? Yes. Is high rank easy? Somewhat. But I can almost promise people are going to complain it is too hard whenever master rank comes out. With Zoh Shia's release, I have joined quests that have failed from people carting and each hunt takes 20+ minutes, so clearly they are working on making them harder.

Price is high, but from an hour/dollar perspective, it has been worth it so far. I still have a lot of things I want to do so I will easily eclipse the 70hours/$70 mark. Hard to get value like that in any other form of entertainment. The micro-transactions are ridiculous, but there is literally no reason to buy them.

The game itself is fun. I personally do not miss the clunky gameplay mechanics of the past that made each hunt take 50 minutes, particularly as a working adult. Being able to complete multiple hunts within an hour is far more beneficial than "staying true" to the old formula. There are plenty of games out there with unlimited grind for those with too much free time.

Oh ♥♥♥♥, it's 3 am?

Charming game. Fun concept. Great voice acting.

However this game is extremely short. Like short to the point where you'd have to afk in it to get all the steam trading card drops. Overall i'd recommend, but hoping future iterations include more content because the game itself is fun. There's just not much of it.

Cannot in good faith recommend this at its current price of $15. Took me all of 2.5 hours to complete everything, including all the new achievements. Overall the content was good, just not enough to justify the price. If I did not have the season pass from the deluxe edition I would have regretted purchasing this.
