games shorter than my temper, but it was a laugh aye

Absolute banger of a game. Card themes, an absolute tonne of content in terms of effects. Its fun keeping an eye out for certain things, like one enemy with a helpful guaranteed heal that saved a run a couple times already.

Been hard to put this down since picking it up, much like Balatro before it.

Overall, just a sick lil pick up and play game that i'll be putting a solid minute into. :)

Great game so far that takes everything from the first and turns it up to 11 in terms of action and quality.

Having seen the flurry of complaints about the MTX i was prepared to also be annoyed, before finding out within half an hour of playing that everything in the MTX store is completely obtainable for free in game. The review bombers may not know that as they wouldn't have put any time into the game I guess? Just to give them the benefit of the doubt :)

Performance issues are present, FPS dips from 100-120 in the wilderness to around 50-60 in the first main town. Definitely an issue there, not unplayable, will likely be fixed soon. That said, this FPS drop is my only detraction so far, everything else is fantastic, great game!

Edit: I've had to come back to this review as a single word clearly doesn't do it justice. This game genuinely stands on its own atop a pile of "just one more run" games that, whilst all good in their own right, don't come close to Balatro.

Every run lends itself to individuality and strategy as it truly captures the feeling of playing the hand you are dealt, be that with the Joker choice, which deck you chose, the planet cards you've been fed etc.

Sometimes all hope is lost and then you pull that X mult joker that perfectly fits what you were trying to go for and all of a sudden the build goes from just scraping by to "To the moon!".

Other times, you've put together a build with an idea and the Jokers you pull punish your hubris and you stall out at Ante 7 like a melon, annoyed at yourself for not grabbing that rare Joker you could've built around back at Ante 4.

All that is just to say, Balatro is a fantastic game and will be a mainstay for me for a long time to come.

Anyone taking the time to read this review will be court-martialled. GET BACK OUT THERE SOLDIER.

Stunning auto-battler with a tonne of synergies (and plenty that don't synergise which will quickly end a run!). The depth already on offer having just released into Early Access is fantastic, long may development continue.
