One of the best RPGs you can play. Highly recommend.

After Sony had a security breach, they decided it would be a good idea to force all players, even those in countries without PSN accounts, to create a PSN account to login. This has effectively scammed an untold number of players who already paid for the game from ever being able to play again. I cannot in good conscious recommend such a mess to anybody.

Best ARPG in the genre. Tons of build variety and diversity. Makes D4 look like a monkey farm run by clowns.

Can't recommend this game in its current state.

The game is far too difficult and fast paced to be fun. You always feel weak and even with upgrades the mobs continue to easily outpace you. Even 12 hours in, all 3 waves of enemies in a level will be alive at once because I can't kill even the first wave before the second and third arrive. Unlike vampire survivors where most weapons and combinations make you stronger, in this game the options that actually make you strong are very rare and not intuitive. If you just build for fun, you will almost always be so weak you can't even finish a level.

The game also bizarrely does not give you enough time to do all the things it tasks you with. If you farm nitra and gold, you miss out on experience and levels and upgrades. If you do secondary missions, you miss out on both of the aforementioned. If you kill enemies and collect their exp to get strong, you miss out on nitra and gold and secondary missions. Every path you take feels bad because you are missing out on ways to progress. On top of that, you have to fail runs to unlock overclocks for weapons. Weapons are not viable without overclocks yet the game asks you to throw away sometimes multiple runs praying for rng to give you the weapon you want to unlock OCs for and then praying it gives you the upgrades to get it to lvl 12. I still have not been able to unlock them for multiple weapons despite actively trying to.

It also feels very bad to not be able to get experience for killing enemies. You have to manually pick it up, but the map is so covered in bugs that most of the experience is completely lost and huge amounts of power and progression will just stay on the level until you lose it all by being forced to move to the next one.

Overall, the game needs a lot of improvement.

I would definitely not recommend base game Valheim to anybody. It's extremely grindy, has frequent significant setbacks, and hours and hours of repetitive farming to progress at a snail's crawl. I would strongly recommend playing it now that world modifiers are out- I play with 3x drop and being able to move all items between portals. Prior to this, it would take several hours of playing for several days straight to gear up several people. Now it only takes a few hours. World modifiers have made this game less of a masochistic slog and a lot more enjoyable to play with friends.

If you're worried you'll miss out on base game hours and hours of grinding, don't worry, even with 3x drop it still took 4 friends and I about 10 hours to get us all geared up with silver once we hit the mountains. Much better than nearly a week without modifiers.

This is a really solid monster hunter game. If you like the cycle of accept a hunt, kill monster, get better gear, repeat, this game is for you. There are a lot of weapon options with dynamic ground and aerial combos and the monsters have exciting and diverse attack sets that really challenge you to adapt to them with your chosen weapon. The pacing is fair- a hunt can take 15-20 minutes and often times just by hunting each new creature in an area you can continue to progress with appropriate gear and you don't have to spend all that much time actually focus-farming specific monsters just to progress. And even when you do hit walls, going back and farming specific monsters for gear is much quicker than the first time you killed them and it's very successful to target farm a specific monster to make a weapon type to give you the necessary edge to take on the next hunt. Overall very fun and highly recommend playing with as many friends as you can (up to 4 total).

This is a super slow idle game. The progression is crawling slower than any other idle game I've tried. I forgot about the game, came back a few months later and had barely progressed with months of offline progress. There are also events that are full of cheaters that have impossible progression within hours of it starting. If you think you can try in an event, you'll be happy to learn there are also bugs that will delete all your event progress randomly with no way to get it back.

Of course all of this slowness can be fixed by spending a ton of $$$ on the game so the design seems intentionally poor.

I can't say enough good things about this game. The developers are fantastic. The community is incredible. The season passes are free and cosmetics get added to random drops after that you can find from normal gameplay. The game is created with respect for the players and it feels like players are listened to and not milked for money. There are so many things put in the game just for players to have *fun* and not to profit shamelessly. The game can be relaxing and casual or extremely high action and intense depending on the difficulty you pick. This game is worth every penny even if not on sale.

October 2023 update:

Progression, out of nowhere, has been nerfed by over 90%. Instead of new players being able to catch up to veteran players in about a year, it will now take 5+ years AT LOWEST ESTIMATES to catch up. This game has taken an immeasurable turn for the worse and I cannot advise you avoid it strongly enough.

A decent long-term game. Important to note, THIS IS NOT AN IDLE GAME. It requires a lot of management of your parties and you can accomplish literally nothing offline without proper prep. Even then, what you can accomplish offline is very limited and caps out after a mere few hours. And on top of that, you need to have invested in cores to automate offline play(which are so buggy they usually don't work) and familiars to automate off-line play.

This game also comes with significant daily chore burden and tasks you with keeping up with the main campaigns, their adventures, each adventure variant, of which each has 1-3, then doing all the variants again with each of four patrons (all of with their own restrictions on top of the variant restrictions). Then you still have weekly trials of mount tiamat to do AND daily, weekly, and season-long season quests. This game takes *a lot* of time and punishes you for not playing daily. Again, THIS IS NOT AN IDLE GAME.

The game does have a lot of strategy involved and is paced well for new players and with time you can get a ton of content for free. Has some issues with memory leaks and being clunky- seems the developer definitely was forced to cut some corners. This is an ongoing theme with the game as content is frequently pushed without it being ready.

There is a great cast of champions and fun adventures. Event pacing is also good. A lot of stuff is given out for free, which is nice. There are also a lot of micro-transactions that are pushed at you but aren't necessary, although familiars do make or break the game experience imo. If you are willing to spend $$ to set up a good amount of familiars, this game is worthwhile.

This game is SO BUGGY. I've only played a little and already:

1) Infinite grow timers on plants
2) Hiding wire machine doesn't work
3) Random holes appear in base that you can just fall through
4) Sliding around randomly when teleporting to a base
5) Solar panel animations don't work correctly
6) Batteries don't show as charging when charging and honestly everything about them and solar panels appears to be broken when it comes to the numbers they display
7) Scanning the same planet over and over day after day and it still shows as new

This is just from casual play and there are SO many more bugs I can't even recall right now.
