Tl;dr: One of the best JRPG's on Steam, the star of the "Tales of" series, and one of the few RPGs that can go toe-to-toe with classics like Final Fantasy VII.

Overall Score
10/10, this game is fantastic.

What is "Tales of Berseria?"
Tales of Berseria is an action RPG with a heavy emphasis on characters and story. It is a prequel to 2015's Tales of Zestiria, taking place long before the events of that game, and setting up many of that world's major plot points. The combat system is one of the best in all of the "Tales" series, with easy to learn yet hard to master controls, and a diverse cast of characters whose abilities complement each other in a very natural feeling way. Being a JRPG, the main story is rather long, averaging around 50 hours to complete a full playthrough, with tons of opportunity for side quests, exploration and loot finding.

Characters and Story (no/mild spoilers)
As mentioned, ToB shines in its cast and overall plot. With a main party comprised of six truly unique and wild lads, there is someone here for everybody. Despite the bizarre scenarios that have led to these characters being who they are, each has elements in their stories which make them feel relatable, real, and human. A stellar supporting cast backs up the already complete-feeling crew to cover a wide range of compelling character stereotypes with a fresh new spin.
ToB accomplishes this fresh take by playing from the perspective of villains aiming to take down the heroes of good. Though you will spend much time fighting more evil monsters, they are not your true enemies, instead focusing on taking down the established "good guys" with each party member having a compelling motivation to do so. It is through this flipped perspective that sets ToB above the traditional setting of "good guys hunting the evil monsters."

Gameplay
Though it may not be its most memorable aspect, ToB has a simply complex style of play. Exploration is fairly straightforward, travel from place to place, occasionally pressing a button to climb a ladder, jump, grab some loot, or otherwise clear an obstacle in your path. Combat is also simply complex, with a wide array of moves each of the characters can pull off, and a handful of ways to string those moves together. It is simple enough to understand after only a few tutorials, but with enough depth that one could spend countless hours of practice and study mastering the various systems built into this game. For the less combat inclined, however, there are a multitude of options to make things less difficult, or even to allow the characters to fight by their own command. All that being said, much of your time will be spent reading/listening to fully voiced dialogue, including the "Skits" famous within the "Tales of" series, making the game sometimes feel more like an interactive movie than something you play.

What else is there to enjoy?
This game offers so much to each player, and as such each player's experience will likely differ in many ways. Which characters you focus on, side quests you undertake, areas you explore, all of these factors play into the overall experience. All of this is accompanied by a killer soundtrack and beautiful visuals (assuming the hardware to process them), and a stellar voice cast which suits each character perfectly. As is tradition with JRPGs, several minigames are present to diversify your gameplay experience, though most are adjacent to the main story and are entirely optional. All of these pieces, and more, all merge together to create a game with a little something for everyone, provided you can sit through the dialogue.

If you've read this far, congrats! I would like to give a special shout out to Eleanor Hume, one of the six in the main party, for being one of the most wonderful and inspirational women in gaming! In order to not devolve into simping territory, I will leave it at that, but all that to say, she really means a lot to me!
