EDIT 2: I just finished the game and honestly, it will be my GOTY of 2025. This game is so special and dear to my heart. The visuals, animation, the acting, gameplay and THE MUSIC! It's all phenomenal! Please play this game! The entire team at Sandfall and all the actors involved deserves all the praise they can get!

EDIT: 12 hours later and HOLY CRAP! This game is my new GOTY for 2025. Please don't spoil yourself on the story and play it for yourself. It's an amazing experience.

About 4 hours in and the game is a whole lot of fun!!
The story, the world and it's lore has depth and mystery.
The voice acting is great for the main characters. They all have great personality and don't fall flat during cutscenes. Speaking of them, holy crap, they can convey so much emotion. I haven't shed a tear 30 minutes into a game in a very long time, so kudos.
The music is absolutely amazing as well, beautiful as it accompanies the heartwrenching and action-packed scenes and combat.
And it runs perfectly fine, I haven't run into any crashes or bugs so far while running it on a 3070, 1440p 60fps.

If you're on the fence about getting this game, I definitely recommend it!

I aboslutely love this game, definitely one of my GOTY for 2025
Runs smooth, fun gameplay mechanics and great music to go with it. Definitely recommend grabbing this game if you're a fan of co-op games.

(Note: This review is written before Episode 2 has come out)

Holy damn, I am not even done with the first episode and I am already enjoying it so much.
Don't Nod nailed the 90s vibe, mixed in with that same nostalgic nerdy feel from the first LiS game. I love the whole concept of reminiscing about an event that happend 27 years ago, as we play through that memory. It makes me curious to see what exactly happened, and eager to wait for the next epsiodes.
I sat behind my screen playing for 3 hours with a huge grin on my face the whole time, it's been so long that I've been able to enjoy a game like this!

EDIT: I just finished the episode and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I loved every bit of it. I even shed a small tear at the end. Not even because of the story itself, but because of the emotions and feelings I was experiencing throughout the game. It's been so long that I felt excited for a game, and it made me feel like a kid again.

I'll recommend it cause it's just simple and easy fun.
The puzzles aren't difficult and its mostly just click and drag. It's a very short experience (finished in less than 3 hours) but it was fun either way.
I recommend playing this game first before going to the Room series, as a kind of build up.

I really loved this game until the last episode.
Yes, it definitely has flaws. But a game doesn't have to be perfect to still be good. It still gave me the same chills as I got while playing the first game and I was truly invested in the story and it's characters. That's what really matters to me in the end, that I had fun.

PROs
- Visually beautiful. The character models as well as all the environments looked all really nice.
- Animations! The facial mocap was really carrying the game, the emotions on people's faces were so good!
- Voice acting and just acting in general was really good. Each character sounded so convincing. Some of the conversations are a big cringe, but the first game has the exact same haha.
- Very much LGBTQ+ friendly. (it's literally in the tags, its not woke -.-)
- Amanda and Gwen are great, I love them a lot <3
- It's great seeing some neurodivergency as well being represented (Moses).
- The game started out so good. Episode 1-3 (and a bit of 4) left me sitting on the edge of my seat for the most part. They really knew how to keep the tension going.

Neutral
- This is an unpopular opinion of mine but I don't mind we don't see anything of Chloe. For a sequel to a game that has multiple endings, one had to be the canon one. And it's kind of obvious the genocide ending won't be that one. After Arcadia Bay, it's been 10 years. At some point, it's okay to let go. This game is about Max, not about Chloe.
- Your choices don't really matter too much. I'm neutral about this because it's exactly the same as the first game, the only choice that decides your ending is the very last one. The rest only change minor things surrounding the NPC's around you.

CONs
- Repetitve environments. There are only a small handful of locations and they all play within the grounds of the University for the most part and you keep switching between them. There are only a small amount of NPC's in these places too, which make them feel a bit empty.
- Max' power was okay, but does not come even close to how cool it was in LiS 1. Seeing you rewind time and seeing everyone and everything move backwards around you is so much cooler than just opening a flat portal every few minutes.
- Not every NPC feels as loved as others. While they gave Gwen, Amanda and Vinh a lot of attention, Diamond and Reggie kind of fell short which caused me to not really care too much about them. This kind of ruins the after-credits scene for me cause Diamond was probably my least favourite character in the game. I didn't really care.
- The last episode feels so rushed and out of left field in my opinion. The fact that Safi turns out to have a god complex and go on a journey of vengeance is just very unsatisfying.
- Audio is a bit buggy sometimes.
- The cat DLC is not worth $20.

FInal verdict: I'll give it a 7/10

I would recommend this ONLY if you enjoy extremely linear visual novel/hand-holding type games.

You can't do anything wrong during the reconstruction sections of the game. You just play the detective and go from one point to the other, doing exactly what the game tells you to do. The only difference you can make is in the dialogue options, where your choices alter the ending of the game.
It's a glorified point-and-click noire detective game with different endings, and that's okay.

If you just want a game for fun parkour and zombie combat, sure it's good (despite the mass amount of bugs and glitches that are still prevalent in this game).

If you wanna play this for the story, don't lol. The story is absolutely BS and just gets more stupid the further you play.

Despite it not being as good as the first, I still genuinely enjoyed this game just as much.

I loved the goofy interactions between Riley and Jacob, it always put a small smile on my face whenever they had banter back and forth. The voiceacting is stellar, although I do think Riley's VA sounded a bit too monotone at times.

The game had the same vibe and similar story (although a lot more linear) to the first, and it gave me the itch that I was feeling for long since the first game. I do think that the constant backtracking over the same environments multiple times gets a bit tedious at points, but it was doable with the enjoyable conversation between the two main characters.
I honestly shed a tear at the end, it was so good :)

EDIT:
I'm incredibly happy I am able to relive this amazing game and story on my PC with the remade assets and textures. It looks absolutely stunning and I am on the edge of my seat every time I play.
The game runs fine, with maybe a hiccup here or there in the more large and dense areas. I don't mind playing at 60-70 FPS, unlike some people.
