Generally playing whatever you think is cool and appeals to you is a good start, yeah. Although lower length (30 hours max) doesn't hurt. I find that immersive presentation also helps keep people's attention, it's partly why AA and DR are as popular as they are.

Anyway, my best recommendations will always be Chaos;Head Noah (when the good translation is out), Mahoyo/Tsukihime Remake (when...their translations are out), and most Nitroplus games like Saya/Kikokugai/Muramasa (although it's very long, and most of these aren't on Steam).

If you want something mystery related, I would very much recommend Remember11 (Uchikoshi worked on it, who created the ZE series), Raging Loop and Root Double. I also hear Cartagra /Kara no Shoujo series is very good, though I have no experience with it.

Ah, alright. I'm used to people just wanting to stoke flames for no reason so I got a bit abrasive. I don't really mind the devil breakers being locked behind the deluxe edition since they're basically all just alts to existing ones in the game/aren't that good to begin with, really only being there for novelty reasons. MGS5's are really awful but DMC5's kinda feel like they're prying on the casual consumer who doesn't know any better, which strikes me as even more annoying. At least I never got a prompt while playing MGS5's main story telling me I can get more powerful if I spent some real cash right now.

I was just genuinely curious and wanted to spark discussion with one who played both mgs5 and DMC5, is all!

But I think the MTs in MGS5 is defo worse cause it's time gates and locking content (can't get it without lots of FOB bases). On the other hand dmc5 has devil breakers behind DLC, so Idk.

I dunno why you're stuck up on some review I wrote like 3 years ago but to stoke the flames regardless, no, I don't support the microtransactions in DMC5 either. It's probably even more scummy than MGS5.

What's your opinion on DMC5 - a game that has both gameplay locked content behind DLCs or deluxe edition (cavaliere, some devil breakers) and non-essentials microtransactions?
