The brutality of war was a very nascent thing, and many great cities were laid waste in the fourth and fifth centuries anno domini in real life. With this game you can either be the nomadic hordes that destroy classical civilization as we know it, and replace it with their own cool stuff, or you can be the Romans, even the Persians, and lots of other cool peoples that existed in that time too. The flavorful events are always an entertaining, immersive and relevant facet to campaigns. As with other total war mods, the steam community has lots of neat modifications for adding detail to this game, as well as mods that enable you to choose other beliefs for your civilization, which allows for unique achievements as well as being really fun to try out and get to apply those benefits to the gameplay.
