It's a decent homeworld-superlite with an FTL style overmap. The game is really pretty for a one man job and anything that evokes homeworld is fine with me.

The camera controls suck, but you can mitigate some of it by using the tactical map during combat. The 'c' and 'v' keys are clutch to being able to see anything during combat as the alternative (using the alt key to focus on a ship/group of ships) is clunky.

Combat is fun to look at but not that deep.

It's worth the extremely low price it sells at right now.

If you have any nostalgia for this game, don't play it in 2020 (even with the fan patch).

Broken AI
Broken pathfinding
Tedious missions

Early Access Review
The core gameplay seems fine but the VO (in general) is atrocious and the "campaign" so far has been some real OORAH nonsense.

I understand the anger over the controller issue but I won't comment on it since it didn't affect me.

This game might as well be Burnout 3 Takedown's crash mode and Burnout Crash mashed together with a golf ball and furninture instead of a car. If you did not like the mode or the game you will not like this.

There are 4 regions but there are multiiple locations with a single map and those locations can have upto a dozen or more levels so there is a lot of content. You have a room, a goal and a few set way to start. Once you get a smashbreaker you have real control over the ball and this is essentially the aftertouch from the burnout series. There are secrets galore on each level as well the requisite signature smashes (remember burnout) and secret smashes (hello burnout).

This game is aimed at a very specific audience with some overlap with other groups. If you've been waitiing for a 3d crash mode since Burnout 3 this is most definitely the game for you.

I'm not sure what I was expecting but I came from this game feeling... good. The writing is decent to good and the voice actors do an excellent job. Lots of little moments throughout the game had me smiling, except for the fourth wall breaking speech at the end. That was dumb. The part right after that though, really good and good on you devs for adding that bit in.

This is beyond the scope of the game I think but a slightly larger tileset for some variation and additional weaponry besides a sword for the demo hero at the end would have been nice.

Do you like numbers? Do you like shooting things to make numbers come out of things? Can you ignore dumb story beats? Do you like beautiful sunsets?

If you have answered yes to 3 of these then you'll probably enjoy the division.

e; Addendum: After 50ish hours PVP is pointless unless you have a crew or enjoy being jumped on every time you call in a chopper.

PVE is quite 'grindy' but if you enjoy the core shooting and loot mechanics then you will probably continue to enjoy it. Personally I'm done but I have enjoyed the time I spent with the game.

This game had a rocky start but Petroglyph kept working on it and released free expansions which obviously engendered a lot of good will as well as bringing people back. Probably one of the best single player RTS games available right now.
