not sure how it got worse, but 1-2 second client-side input lags when im 27ms to server is unplayable. what the actual ♥♥♥♥ is that?

Its just... not very fun? idk, im playing as witch, and all I do is trail around after my summons like a janitor, sweeping crap into my bags and then going and selling it. There's nothing worth buying at the stores, act 1 is just set after set of murky maps getting swarmed by trash that doesnt require any thought to deal with. like how far into act 1 do you need to get before the game actually starts being a game? Am I missing the point of POE games completely or do I have high expectations for an EA title? IDK. I just dont know that I want to give it another weekend to pick up.

Its not for me, but this is going to hit a very specific group of people that have starved for Newgrounds games for the last decade like an atom bomb.

Rails-narrative detective game that brings ambiance and worldbuilding in spades ; light on exposition and heavy on character I dumped 8 straight hours into this without blinking, exchanges between characters were credible, clean and meaningful, Sara's autonomy and drives felt solid and well-structured. I've honestly got nothing bad to say about it at all, other than there's zero replay value other than grabbing achievements.

a solid win, looking forward to seeing what this dev group brings in the future.

immaculate vibes-based gaming, a cheerful little platformer that never stresses you out (not a supermeatboy-style affair) good feels.

No A-Life, No credible enemy AI, glass walls for movement and bullets, completely garbage spawning, enemies that always know where you are and a bloodsucker in the starter area that two-hits you. a solid miss on launch. I'll come back in a year if they patch it up or the community mods some quality into it.

I give up, Im parking the game and waiting to see what they patch in or change because this is just bland, cartooney garbage right now with the most unsatisfyingly dumb combat ever. my last "oh for ♥♥♥♥♥ sake" moment was the takedown tutorial telling me to max out the stagger bar and then giving me enemies where they die before you can do that. I really hope they do something with this because this just feels like a massive waste of time and money.

Lacklustre writing, (why is Morrigan a cheerful little happy-to-help twee thing? Big Plot Twist : a dwarf gets magic) terrible hitreg mechanics, clunky and embarrassing map design: (CURRENTLY INACCESSIBLE) . The Qunaari meshes in character generation look like thrown together placeholders. PC and NPC meshes are weirdly smoothed and are giving really strong mid 2000's vibes, somehow feels like a noticeable step backwards from DA:I - like they build this for the switch or something and didn't want to challenge the hardware in any way. The voice acting is flat and uninspired : does the fate of the world hang in the balance? why are Neve and Harding talking to me about it like we're doing taxes? Why do NPCs repeat names over and over in dialogue? people simply do not talk like that, how did voice direction & writing not pick up on this? Whos idea was map design with pointless fog gates that just say "not currently accessible"? do you know how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lazy that is? they could have blocked a path with an object or a gated entry with a skill, but no. seeing 'come back later lmao' as an immersion breaking in-game text on a pathway feels genuinely insulting in a $60 game

so many little quality touches were missed : why does the starter armor have truly abyssmal clipping? why are there no hit-the-wall animations? Tomb raider had this over twenty years ago? why is PC step not matched to speed, so I look like I'm ice skating when I'm running? Why does Rook not know how to climb over obstacles 50% of the time so I have to back up and take another run at things? movement on keyboard is mapped to cardinal directions and there's no interstitial animation to over moving from 0' to 45' so your character is a jerking, palsied mess. - things are much, much smoother on gamepad. always nice to pay $60 for a port where nobody pays attention to the basics of control translation!

miserable start, honestly. I don't care about the characters or the situation because every interaction i've had with the game world has been so dramatically clunky and lacking in care, direction and polish.

How do you write a review for the dumbest, funnest roguelite in existence?

Get it. Mod it. embrace chaos!

Its hard to explain, but this thing is giving me nostalgia vibes for Little Big Adventure. Im having a truly horrible couple of weeks, and this is so genuinely pleasant to play.

Edit - finally completed & 100% - a super gay, extremely cozy little game that makes me want to quit my job, get a little van and commit ecoterrorism. or just make friends with Frog people. Nothing but good feels and I wish all the best to the Devs and the really nice people who left me some friendly comments. Great stuff :)

9/12 - absolutely miserable server connectivity, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
9/28 - Ultrawide is here but looks wrong. I dont know how to describe it other than its somehow worse than the bootleg fix. they've fixed enough of the game in campaign that Im now able to drag the terrible-AI-brothers-of-concussion to our final showdown with Imurah, where it wipes my weapons and makes me fight him with a chainsword and a bolter because FML. they dont even have the courtesy of a cutscene where titus has to grab whatever weapons he can. its just "nah, ♥♥♥♥ your loadout"

if this is really the end bossfight its a chore. the amount of parry prompting just makes you feel like you're playing a dumb rhythm/DDR game blue-parry- blue-parry-blue-parry-red-roll-blue-parry- Its so tedious. I dont care about Imurah. I dont care about my 'battle brothers' because they're ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ useless in a fight. evrything about the campaign so far has me wanting to play the game less, not more.

//

a lot of very obvious first-round QA look-and-feel stuff has been left unresolved

major

- tyranid ranged shots clip through terrain and cover objects. Zoanthrope shots hit through terrain and have a hitbox noticably larger than their on-screen projectile

- ally AI for campaign is absolutely terrible. like stuck in terrain, wont aggro enemies, contributes virtually nothing levels of bad. I cant emphasize this harder. Darktide has better bot AI. the emperors finest are concussed, barely sentient ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

- melee hitreg in campaign is appallingly inconsistent

- no UW support in 2024. not even UUW. like you're getting 4:3 and that's it.

there's a lot of little, finicky misses that dont make sense : second campaign mission, I get it. Weapons are going to not have a lot of variety at this point... so why do I keep running into weapon swap pods that just have the weapons I'm already carrying?

AI allies inconsistent behavior. "cover me" my guy yells as he grabs the generator wheel to raise the antenna petals. I then get swarmed by nids. where are my guys? not covering my ass, thats for sure. "we need to fall back inside" -> they stay outside, the doors close, the plot just continues. we take the elevator up after raising the antenna petals. one of the squadmates gets stuck in the falling animation and just floats around

opening tutorial has a canister for virus bombing that the SM just... tucks into his ass. could a clipped it to a belt. could have carried it. but no, invisible pockets in 2024.

glass walls EVERYWHERE. also why are there random little barriers I have to kick down? whats that for? they dont contribute anything to the gameplay and theres no in-universe explanation for them. they dont even mark game loading/transition zones. so much of this Early-access-in-a-dress mess makes no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sense.
