Everything has been said already i guess.
fun, well-told, beautiful, atmospheric, humorous, unique.
in no other game is riding around this enjoyable.

Unfortunately, i found the final parts of the main quest somewhat clungy and slightly bugged, which forced me to replay a lot of it and detracted from an otherwise flawless experience.

Call of Cthulu is a pretty decent, dark adventure game in classic lovecraftian setting.
The grim and ominous atmosphere is only interrupted by the truly horrific character animations and faces, aside from which the game is quite pretty and has held up well (after 7 years).

You play an unfortunate PI who gets a job investigating a supposedly closed case on a dreary island, and indeed, you mostly do PI thing. Seaching for evidence, solving little puzzles, and recreating the events form the majority of the gameplay loop, and it's actually quite fun.
As you do, you start to uncover traumatizing secrets and slowly go insane - with frequent visions and hallucinations.

The story is intriguing, and while i myself am not a die-hard lovecraft-lover, other reviewers seem to think it's crafted well and is true to the source. It certainly is fun to follow, and has a couple of twists that are more or less expectable depending on well you know the cthulu universe.

At 8 hours long, it's also quite concise and doesn't lose track of the main story nor creates ludonarrative dissonance by making you do menial tasks while lives are at stake.

very enjoyable, probably even with no prior knowledge of the setting.

What Remains of Edith Finch is a beautifully staged story about a very unfortunate family. Each family member has their own micro-game, in which you discover their fate. The premise is interesting enough, but the writing is what makes the game really exceptional. It really gets across the diary vibe.

While it's pretty much a walking simulator, the transitions between the stories aren't boring as the setting invites exploration. It's also still pretty enough to not break immersion.

definitely recommend for a cozy evening, 9/10

a cute, short game about, uh, saying no more.
the graphics are cute, the voice acting is fitting, the writing is fun, and the entire thing is a nice parody of corporate life.
the ending is a bit on the nose though

pick it up on a sale for a fun 2 hours

in Trek To Yomi, you play a samurai dealing with grief in a uniquely violent manner.

this is probably the most cinematic game i've ever played. you move between different "screens" with a relatively fixed camera, and every single one of them feels like a shot from a classic samurai movie. the camera angles, lighting, effects, sceneray, soundscape, the cut scenes, everything just fits the theme perfectly and immerses you in a bygone era of dutiful katana-wielding warriors. 9/10, if only the modelling was a bit more detailed (although it is perfectly fine, especially considering the studio size)

it's so great ...

and then there's the gameplay. weird telegraphing, not all that challenging, inconsequential combos and skills, somewhat clunky, repetitive, ...
it's just not good. there's nothing innovative, and it's not even a good copycat. the best one can say is that it doesn't have bugs, and largely works. 4/10

the story is derivative, but that's fine for an hommage to cult movies. At points it takes weird detours, but it's mostly executed well. it's also rather short at 5 hours. 6/10

in the end, i recommend Trek To Yomi, IF YOU'RE IN IT FOR THE VISUALS.

In a way out, you try to break out of prison in a co-op, third person action game.

+ very cinematic
+ good co-op gameplay
+ good story
+ good writing
+ decent graphics (not awe-inspiring, but good enough)

- choices have limited impact (if that's something you're looking for)
- immersion can break at points due to janky gameplay
- the actual prison escape part could've been longer for my taste

8/10, really good co-op experience at about 6 hours runtime

+ decent graphics
+ cute dogs
+ no bugs

- you can't really steer the sled?
- at intersections you can choose left or right. THE BUTTONS ARE ARRANGED VERTICALLY
- lackluster minigames
- the game doesn't create a sufficiently sombre (or funny) atmosphere to justify repeatedly failing at dogsledding a couple of miles.

all in all, this might be fun for some people, but if you come in expecting proper dogsledding gameplay or the long dark vibes, this is not for you.

In Citizen Sleeper, you are an escaped sleeper trying to survive on a space station in what is essentially a visual novel with rpg elements.

The station's and the characters' design create a classic sci-fi atmosphere, which is weirdly enough elevated by the UI. The plot is also in large parts classic sci-fi, and reminded me a lot of the book Artemis. The rpg mechanics are simple but effective. The voice acting is very well done, and the music & soundsphere fits the vibe.
But oh my god the writing is superb. All characters are instantly unique, the worldbuilding is subtle but abundant and draws you into the story. The relations you build with NPCs and the decisions you make feel relevant and impactful, and the game puts some moral ambiguity in your way. Even though I'm usually not a big fan of text-based games, I played this one through in 2-3 sessions.

The best game I played in 2024 and instantly one of my favorites, definitely worth the full price at about 7-12 hours of playtime.

In death and taxes, you play as newborn grim reaper, deciding which humans have to die as part of your 9 to 5 office job.

+ funny premise
+ pretty art
+ well written characters
+ good voice acting
+ short, but with high replay value
+ neat character customization

~ true mechanics not really apparent (i only got what was actually happening when i got a specific item)

- not enough desk space (lmao)

fun times, 2-3 hours per playthrough and probably 5+ truly different endings/directions
7/10 definitely worth picking up on sale

In TOEM you walk around, take pictures, and help people.

It's a beautiful, relaxed adventure game, entirely in a doodly black and white art style.
The characters are fun and quirky, but not too over the top, and the different regions all feel unique.
There's a lot to discover, and no quest feels chorey.

The game is very reminiscent of "a very short hike", but without being derivative.
Basic playtime is around 8 hours, if you're a leisurely completionist you probably get 8.

All in all a great experience, 9/10
