Very good game, highly charming. Unfortunately the larger maps have some stuttering problems, however the dev seems to be trying to fix any technical issues and going fullscreen (non-borderless) reduced the intensity of this enough that it wasn't disruptive.

It's Hades but again, so it's obviously good.

The new protag plays well and the gameplay/hub changes are very good. They swapped out double dash for dash into sprint. Said sprint doesn't feel very good, but it's not a gameplay ruiner by any means.

The actual combat runs fine, but story mode is really choppy. Every 2nd cutscene will just randomly transition to a loading screen. Subtitles have shown internal code references instead of actual subtitles repeatedly and when they do show subtitles they're violently out of sync with the cutscene. The transition from cutscene to combat can't decide if it wants to be smooth or to stall for long enough that the fight has already started by the time your screen starts updating so it just alternates between the two every other fight.

And the obligatory complaint that Shang Tsung is a core narrative character but he's paid DLC if you didn't pre-order, and Quan Chi and Ermac are both fully done, in the game already, and feature in the story, but you have to wait for later paid DLC because screw you.

Between the technical polish it needs and the predatory financing model, wait for it to end up costing 6 dollars like the last MK ended up costing tbh.

its a game

I've been playing Survival Horror since I was a small kid being scared senseless by Resident evil 1/2 and silent hill 1 all the way to today where I have an on/off relationship with speedrunning the modern RE games. I love this genre, and Signalis is an incredibly good addition to it. Beautifully executed on every possible aspect, must buy if you like the genre, and a must-watch company for me from now on if they intend to keep making in this space.

Game has around 80 puzzles (at time of writing), I did 40 in my meagre playtime. I didn't expect much from an affordable game, and it's got a charm to it, however the puzzles are very evident at first glance, and I found myself spending more time fighting the camera than I did ever thinking about a puzzle because once the puzzles go 3d it's quite annoying to try and get a good angle to even look at it. And that isn't really puzzle depth, it's just bad camera controls. Fix the camera and it's an easy positive review. Still, hard to be mad at such an affordable buy.

There's the foundation of a good game here and I'm interested in watching it develop over time. However, it's not here yet. Normally I'd just move on and not leave a negative review, but then the helper bot happened.

I'll take this negative review away as soon as they remove the fact that the 'helper bot' companion thing you have is the most obnoxious little prat in gaming history. If you put him to sleep he immediately turns back on again the second you make the tiniest amount of progress to follow you around getting in your way telling you obvious things you don't need to be told.

Negatives; Power range feels awkward, one of the fights is a bit dumb. Movement felt a bit awkward.
positives; basically everything else. Scarier than main game at points, longer than I expected, good narrative. Really quality DLC imo.
