Monthly Review - New Game November 2020
Review Showcase
Final Score: 7.5/10
Control is an excellent take on the style of SCP writing we've gotten for a long time, the universe and lore is very interesting though it can be a little tough to follow. Here is my full review of control:

Art: 0.75
+ Beautiful levels, environmental design is top notch. <Very Nice Furniture/Whats Art Deco?>
+ Texture work is great and feels seamless <Oldest House is Clean/ Smooth>
+ Awesome events/effects throughout the game <Exciting Visuals/Wow>
- Enemy design is a little lack luster <Too much Red/ Hiss Boo>

Sound: 1
+ Amazing OST along with amazing tracks played on in game radios <Ears are Humming/Pleased>
+ Sound work flows smoothly nothing stands out in a bad way. <United like the Board/Synergy>
+ SFX of weapons, enemies, and physics make it feel so good in combat. <Feels good to shoot/Bang Bang>

Writing: 0.75
Note: This was hard... I enjoy the story, but I'm trying to see it from an outside perspective and in all reality it falls apart really quickly.
+ Great reads throughout the game through collectibles <Lots of Reading/Many Papers>
+ Great witty humor throughout, the game doesn't take itself too seriously and it really shows in their writing, kept it fun throughout the game. <Board is serious/facetious>

+/- A lot of the in game dialogue is fun but can also be a little strange and out of touch <Humans are weird/Awkward>
- They leave a lot of things in this game in a vague state and you really have to read a lot of the stuff in game to really understand the story (Like Dark Souls Kinda not really) But if you do, it gets just a little better. <Board must disguise/Hidden Truths>

Technical: 0.5
Note: You can tell a lot of work went into this game and it really shows, but I still can't dismiss the many amount of bugs found in this game, but I still give props to Remedy for making one hell of a game!
+ The physics engine and environment make moving around and fighting really fun! <Move with Grace/Kill Enemies>
- There are plenty of bugs that can occur with enemy spawns, enemy movement, and menu's. Also guns getting stuck in the reload animation while also stuck in the throw object animation. <The Oldest House Bleeds/Astral Plane>
- The high graphic demand of this game can show at times like when pausing the game, they did their best to optimize it, but it still suffers every now and then. <The Board wants the best/Pinnacle/No Exceptions>

Communication/Design: 0.75
+ The menu design is simple yet really effective and smooth, moving through collectibles feels great and easy to find everything. <Read Well/Listen Great>
+ Subtitles work really well, and are great to keep track of the dialogue throughout the game. <Good for hard of hearing/Deaf>
+/- They did a decent job at eliminating a lot of needless U.I. but sometimes you can feel a bit lost with some quests in game. <Board not very clear?/Understand?>
- Speaking of getting lost, the map is pretty bad, and some areas especially in the foundation DLC have no maps and rely on you just memorizing where everything is. (Fine for me, but can't speak for others.) <Trust in your memory/conscious>

Engagement: 1
+ You feel really invested throughout the main campaign! <The Board Needs You/New Director>
+ Many of the side missions are even more fun then the main campaign! <Former is coming/Altered Items>
+ Since this is the ultimate edition, This also comes with the DLC so you get access to even more mission and awesome content. All 3 expansions are pretty decent, The foundation one is the best, but Investigations is really fun and adds some pretty tough fights that simulate old good boss battles and content, Great stuff. <The Foundation is bleeding/Darkness Coming/Expeditions Arising>

Pacing: 0.50
+ Throughout the main campaign the pacing feels great, and with each area being one big stage you don't have to go through too many loading screens (If you don't die) <Move Quickly/Stay Safe>
+/- The use of fast travel in this game does feel reminiscent of Dark Souls, but instead of bonfires they are control points, but there is a lot of them, and I think if enemy design was better you wouldn't need so many control points just to skip fighting enemies. <Canon to Control/Old House Shifts>
- The developers mentioned this, and I noticed as well, the dialogue throughout the game can be cut off due to it not being paced well with the movement of the game. I've accidentally missed many dialogue lines due to moving too quickly. <Slow Down/Walk>
- Enemies can die pretty quickly late game and just feels like a pain in the butt obstacle rather then a great time to try out your skills. Except during certain challenges. <Weak Hiss/Waste of Time>
- Dying puts you into a pretty long loading screen that can really ruin the pacing, especially if you accidentally fall into a pit and can't float yourself back up. <Accidents hurt/Oopsies>

Agency: 0.5
+ Lost of cool skills to use against enemies and level them up through skills tree. <The Board provides many gifts/Objects of Power>
+ Can be fun messing with mods to make different builds. <You must evolve/Change>
+/- all of the customization is fun, but can be meaningless throughout most of the game until you get to the really tough challenge fights that are not even part of the main game. <Be patient/Wait long>
- When it comes down to it, the most powerful thing in the game is throwing objects, and nothing really beats it until you somehow manage to get some really powerful gun mods, which by then only matches the throwing power, but since throwing is automatic lock on, still trumps the gun and the other abilities. So due to this the agency falls apart and narrows down to see enemy throw object. <Very unfortunate/ Sad>

Innovation: 1
+ Remedy is still doing great in the innovation department and I must always commend them for trying many different things. They did a lot of risky things with this game such as using the SCP format and risk being scrutinized, and the the different forms of media, but it all works really well. <Stay creative/Curve is great>

Execution: 0.75
+/- I believe this game really has good synergy, they executed everything very nicely, but of course there is always something to improve on, and i'm looking forward to remedy's next game. They did a lot of interesting stuff with this game, and even though some things kinda fell through, overall I had a great time with this game and I definitely recommend it to anyone else interested! <The Board is Happy/Good Job Remedy>
