Managed Democracy has won this day, Sony has reverted the required PSN changes - we may dive once more into the breach!

(PS other than this Sony BS, this game is quite possibly one of the best co-op/community driven games out there, with developers that truly do care about the game they're making!

------------------Old review----------------
After the patrol changes forcing people who play solo or with fewer people to face an insane difficulty spike then to straight after that announce they're forcing PSN accounts of everyone regardless of platform, just shows a complete lack of understanding on what the community of players even want.

Do not recommend until the publisher (aka sony) drop the forced PSN changes.

By its name you kinda expect a medieval house flipper. That is not at all the case, which is a shame as that would've been amazing.

I've refunded it for now, may check back in when there is more content :c

So this is my response to what the dev commented - just in case they don't get notified of review comments.

@Devs, While I agree you're two different studios, the fact remains the game is called Castle FLIPPER - which I'm sorry but you guys must've known or at least hoped that you'd be riding some of the House flipper hype.

It's like if you ordered a Bacon bun and instead I gave you a Vegan bacon bun. Like sure, it's Technically what you asked for, but also hugely different and not really what you wanted - That's basically this game summed up. Sure it has some great moments, but with a name like 'Castle Flipper' You kinda are expecting to be able to buy and flip medieval style buildings and castles, and instead you get some short ass missions which seem mostly irrelevant, tedious hand-holding at the start of the game, and zero 'flipping'

This game is pretty much just a glorified castle designer without any other real substance. Plus you can't just use the defence we're different dev studios, when the name of your game and the content don't at all match :P That's on you guys for calling it a flipper game, then wondering why people are down voting it because there is literally no 'flipping' involved in the game.

So after full release, this game is amazing and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves D&D or in general roleplaying games <3

Pre-release review below
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm freaking loving it, though I knew I would <3 Not only do I love the development studio, I've been a fan of the BG series since my childhood

YES this game does need polish, but it is an early access right now, and if it comes close to the quality of Divinity Original Sin 2, then this game will be incredible,

If you don't want to be a beta tester for the game, then just leave this one alone until it's released - but as it stands this game is amazing and I intend to sink many, many more hours into it!

Ended up refunding due to constant crashing and FPS issues in VR even though I more than meet the recommended specs, not to mention it doesn't even include UK driving laws and signs, closest is AUS ><

For context, I have a GTX 1070 ti 8GB (overclocked to 1850Mhz clock speed), 32 GB of 3200Mhz RAM, Ryzen 5 3600 clocked at 4.3Ghz, the game was also installed on an SSD - even with all that and SteamVR SS only at 100% and the game settings to mid I'd get constant frame drops all over the place for no real reason, then if I tried to adjust settings in-game it would crash to desktop. Seems like more hassle than it's worth right now :/

I have no doubt this would've run flawlessly when not in VR but I brought it specifically for VR to use with my Vive, so it's a no-go for me

It's honestly just not fun - I love difficult games but this one boils mostly down to luck rather than skill/practice, which just isn't fun as a gameplay mechanic. Refunded it and likely wont bother with it again until maybe full release.

EDIT: I've switched my review to Positive for the meantime, as it seems the Devs are taking an active role in dealing with the bugs and also taking on constructive feedback for the games development, which is always awesome to see! =) I'll come back to review my review in about 3-6 months so It stays updated =)

So I'm mostly sticking this as a 'not recommend' so that the devs see it for the feedback, as it seems they respond to the negative reviews more than any positive ones. With that being said I wish steam had a "wait a few months" option as I don't think this is a bad game and I'm likely going to continue playing it, but I feel like it's been rushed out and not fully tested and could easily do with a few more months in development, here's a breakdown on my thoughts.

(TL/DR The game is great, but it lacks depth, tbh the engines are far to simple (when compared to other Mechanic sims) and the choices in the amount of tanks is super limited - wait until more is added and bugs have been fixed) Full breakdown below;

I'm a huge fan of these types of games I find them really relaxing to play, I'm not a mechanic in real life and I don't expect these games to make me one :P But after 11 hours in TMS I find that there just isn't enough depth, I get that this and CMS2018 was made by different developers, but you'd think some of the basic quality of life elements in the CMS would be in this. Simple things like the ability to go into the analysis window and highlight the part you've missed, or having a tutorial complete in two contracts, having to drain the oil (never thought I'd miss that :P) I find myself missing the junk yard and barn finds, while I get these are super unlikely when regarding tanks isn't it just as odd you walk out to your backyard and have magically appearing tanks?

This game feels limiting and unfinished, the tutorial is buggy as hell and tbh makes little sense, as with CMS you should have all that done in the first two jobs and have those be the only contracts you have access to, I was still 8 hours in and receiving tutorials? In the end I dismissed them and just played normally which was by far the right thing to do :P

I miss the ability to meticulously have to take apart an engine block, go to the repair bench and repair what you can and have to buy the rest. Take for example the crafting bench, I've unlocked all but 5 skills in the game and I have never used it, as far as I can tell you buy the tank blueprints off the store and then you're able to craft those bits at the bench - this is a 100% pointless mechanic when you're able to fully repair practically any piece on a tank without fear of losing any of the parts, and even those part you can't repair you just outsource because it's super cheap. If you take an excavated tank at around 70% you could take everything off, outsource all the repairs and only buy the bits you need and you'd still make profit. So then that brings in to question why bother ever repairing things yourself?

The price of the blueprints means you're unlikely to even get them in the first place, so it's just a section of your workshop you never visit - I'm doing jobs now worth 90k and 70-90 skill points, sitting on 500k and to buy the cheapest blueprint will be around 300k, but it's pointless, as if you have all the cost reduction skills unlocked it's more cost effective to just buy the parts rather than waste time crafting :s which is a real shame.

the museum mechanic on the surface seems pretty cool, but again lacks zero direction of information and ends up just being another pointless addition? They could literally drop it's ability to make money and rename it to the 'showroom' and it would make more sense, simply due to the fact the money you can make from it is so minor and insignificant that adding a ticket price is pointless, I have 4 fully restored tanks and a ticket price at $20 (because who knows what a good price range is, the game doesn't tell you) and I make maybe 2-3k every 10 minutes or so? Super pointless when I can just do a quick 60% job and make 50k

One of the things I really do like is the excavations but that's blocked behind having to have a job for it, sure it can be a bit tedious, but why not have it so we can visit multiple swamps, fields, mashes ect whenever the player wants to, and instead of jobs have it so you can pay for tips on tank locations, as right now there is very little to actually spend your money on. That would make more sense than having tanks materialise in your backyard.

There is super minor stuff like a ton of misspellings in the tutorial windows (of which I've already reported on the bugs forum) The inventory occasionally just makes anything inside it invisible and you have to reload the game. I've been lucky and haven't have any of the major crashes or save game files being deleted.

It's stuff like this that makes the game feel rushed! I've had this on my wishlist since it came to steam and I've been excited about getting it, and while I still see myself continuing to play it, I'm disappointed in the lack of depth this game portrayed in the trailers. It feel unfinished and certain design choices or mechanics simplify the game so much, it makes other things you can do in the game ultimately pointless.

I think the game is good and has a ton of potential, and the devs seem pretty active in the community and discord, so I'm hopeful they'll continue developing the game and turn it into something great - so buy the game if you want to support them, however if you're just looking for an in depth tank mechanic game, I'd honestly wait 6 months before getting it as right now it's lacking :c

Oh and my final note, PLEASE add in an option to turn down the sandblaster and de-rusting tool as the sounds are obnoxious are turning down effect volume does nothing to quiet them! I should also point out the sounds for the shooting range are broken and are always at 100% volume regardless of the audio settings

Early Access Review
I would highly recommend this to people who enjoy the space survival type game, in the vein of Space Engineers and such. it has honestly really surprised me at just how much there is in the game given it's still in alpha.

I've noticed most of the reviews downvoting this game is that it's still in alpha, or it's crashing and has bugs - might I remind everyone that Space Engineers initial release on steam was in 2013, and only released version 1.0 in February of 2019. So that's a development cycle of 6 years. This was only released in 2015 and has only been in development for less than 4 years right now. I completely understand and agree with the frustrations that can come from early access games, but you cannot fault the fact that at it's current stage in development, I'd wager this has by far more content and features than Space Engineers did 4 year into its development. And I know for a fact it does because I have been playing SE on and off since 2013.

If you're willing to accept the fact it's in alpha and that there will be bugs and potential issues because it's an unfinished game, then I think you could have countless hours of fun!

I might rewrite this review in the future to give a more comprehensive opinion - but for now, I'd say buy it, it's on sale for £7.50 and it's worth every penny.

TL/DR: This game is amazing and I would recommend it to everyone - yes even though is early access!

I've nominated this game for The Most Innovative Gameplay Award, as after the slew of games to come out this year, I really think this one deserves it/

Honestly, I don't know where to start with this game - it's freaking amazing, I've only had it for 5 days now... which come to think of it means I've been putting in about 9 hours a day on average... oops?

But I mean if that doesn't say a lot about how amazing this game is, I really don't know what will! I've put 46 hours into in and I can easily see myself putting in another 46, for a game that's just £13 it's crazy how much you get for your money and to top it all off it's not even freaking finished yet! Come 1.0 an entirely new section of the map will (hopefully) be added!

At first I had quite a hard time getting used to the difficulty curve and I would highly recommend you go watch Acticus Dragon, he has done quite a few really long let's plays of this game and watching some has really helped me understand the game a lot more but don't watch past what you've explored in the game. - In that I mean don't spoil the game for yourself there are so many amazing sights and ruins to see and explore, and this is really one of those games where your first time will be something both frustrating but amazing and at the end of this review I'll leave the story of my very first 2 hours!

The biggest thing I can say is don't get disheartened by the fact it's a tough game, you have to understand that this game will be difficult and a suit of armour and a sword wont make your character amazing and unkillable, you WILL lose characters, some you may lose instantly others make die in a few hours but you have to accept that you can easily die in this game - but it's part of the game, it's part of what makes this game amazing!

I would highly recommend this game to pretty much everyone, even people who only play casually, I honestly think this is one of those few games where pretty much anyone would enjoy playing it! But do bare in mind don’t buy this game for young children, it mean that should be obvious given the cannibals, but y’know :P

My first day:
I started out in a town called The Hub a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ mostly filled with run down buildings a single bar a tower filled with shady ninjas, mostly confused and with zero idea on where to go, I saw some iron and copper and mined up some of that to buy some food, though as I went back towards the bar to sell it a large group of hungry bandits attacked, it was a bloodbath and the majority of them got absolutely destroyed by the local ninjas - so naturally I looted every single one selling all their ♥♥♥♥, I thought awesome! I have some armour a slightly better weapon, let's go exploring! I noticed on the map there was another city nearby called Squin, figuring that the hub was a run down city, maybe I'd have a better chance at Squin! So off on my merry way I went. About halfway there a large group of about 15 hungry ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ started to chase me, I did my best to get away but they caught up with me, beat the living ♥♥♥♥ out of me stole all my food and then left me for dead... when I finally did wake up from my coma I was limping, most of my limbs were damaged and I was in bad shape.

Finally I arrived at Squin in the middle of the night, and I decided ♥♥♥♥ it I'm already half dead, let's try and break into a shop - and to my surprise I actually did break in, I manage to get into a chest and started looting everything I could carry! But in my haste I made quite a lot of noise, 2 large Shek came storming down the stairs, and caught me with my hand in the chest and after knocking me unconscious the local guard had me arrested.

Sitting in that cell I knew it wasn't going to end well, so I checked to see if I could pick the locks and I did manage to break out, but I thought my sentence was only for 4 days, if I could last that out then maybe, just maybe I'd be in a better spot, so I stepped back into my cell. Shortly after a guard came to release me and informed me that I had been sold into slavery Like are you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kidding me?!?! So my new mastered ordered me to follow them, but due to my gammy leg I was falling behind, after I realised they were pretty far ahead I figured screw it I'm dead already and began to break free of my shackles! But as I began to pick the lock the slavers came rushing back and knocked me unconscious... I was then promptly arrested for attempting to break free of my masters!

Y'know I really don't get what people are complaining about, this is pretty much the exact same amount of stuff you got with the Plantoids pack for the same cost and yet people have rated that mostly positive? Sure it's not a great deal of things and yes mods can do much better but they could when the Plantoid pack was out :P If you're a fan of paradox and love the game get it to support the devs, if you don't care wait until it's on deal! :P

I personally would recommend it but that's more down to me wanting to support the developers! :P

I have to say, after only playing 7 hours I'm really loving this game. I was expecting a direct DkS rip with nothing really that interesting, but I think what we got was actually a pretty awesome game! The story so far while odd is pretty interesting and I'm invested to find out what it's leading too, which is always a good sign, the revenant system is awesome, the fact that you can fight AI controlled player characters and have a chance at getting the items they have equipped is pretty neat!

I understand some people have had performance issues even with people who have listed better specs than me, but I think that is mostly down to people trying to play in 4k. I'm running a GTX 1070 8gb, i5 6500 with 16Gb ram plus the game is only running of a HDD and yet at 1080p I'm able to maintain 60fps without any drops even in dense areas. The best bet for anyone wanting to play at 4k is to message the devs and ask them for a recommanded specs list for 4k gameplay or just play at 1080p until a patch comes out to fix 4k!

The only real issue I can think of right now is the complete lack of mouse/keyboard support, this game must be played with a usb controller of some kind otherwise it is pretty much unplayable as all the controls are keyboard bound which sucks, though thankfully this isn't really an issue for me as I have an xbox controller.

One thing that might confuse people early on is things like, backstabs, grapple attacks or any other type of special attack is, they're bound to the weapon skills or Ninja skills but you seem to be able to earn a decent amount of skill points without that much hassle, so just be sure to read through the different skills and such =)

While I don't doubt there likely are issues I will find the more I play the game, I still think this is a game worth picking up, it has a lot of promise. However I will update my review when I have put more hours into it as I have yet to try any multiplayer aspect

I think to finish off I would highly recommend this game if you're a fan of the Ninja Gaiden or Dark souls series, this game takes the high difficult of both games while also adding a dark souls flair, some people might hate the Diablo style loot system but personally that's something which has never bothered me in games.

tl/dr If Ninja Gaiden and Dark Souls had a baby this would be the result.
