My old review was bashing on this game because I never took time to set up or tune the cars properly, and it was on a free weekend.
The reason why it understeers is because of the default setup, not the physics in general.
The reason why it understeers is because of the differentials being locked, and you should test out your setups constantly to minimize the said understeer.

I tell you, the people who slap on a negative review are the people who transition to Dirt Rally and keep the mindset that this game is Dirt Rally 2, and they never get satisfied about this game. This game lets you have fun and keeps it challenging.

"hur dur terrible mechanics"
"hur dur it understeers too much" -people who rely on Steam workshop to tune their cars and never experiment on tuning in general
"hur dur this doesnt support my racing wheel and there's no VR"

If you're one of those people, please help yourself and give it another chance. No game can be perfect.

Now, as for the game itself, it's more complete than Dirt Rally, and it makes the former game look so stale in content. The thing with Dirt Rally is that it encourages alot of oversteer (which is not a bad thing), while Dirt 4 has UNDERSTEER on default setups, but it's pretty good if you know what to do with the car. With this, pendulum swings and handbrakes are paramount into getting fast and ensuring that the car goes by properly. The great thing about the physics here is that they fixed the "weightlessness" of the cars whenever you go airborn, and that was scary in Dirt Rally (and its why I really hate Finland). If you hit something like that in Dirt 4, there's a great feeling of weight as it pulls you back down, saving your car from impending doom.

The sale that started around September 26, 2018 made this game a huge steal, and it's one of my favourite games to date.

Let's keep driving on our way to Dirt Rally 2.0.

Honestly, as much as there's a "bootleg Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune" which is this, right in the Steam Stores, I think it needs to be added and refined even more. Like fully customized/realized graphics settings, proper multiplayer connection, menu navigation by controller, borderless window mode, more cars, more tracks, and a proper menu selection screen.

I mean, honestly, if you want a port of something you wanted from Wangan Midnight or Initial D NOW, then this can be a good choice. BUT if you are looking for a quality port that you can just pick up and have fun, I guess you have to wait on this one for a bit.

Had to refund since it's not worth my money for the time, sorry.

But I wish and hope this thing will send a message that can make Bandai Namco and Sega release a proper port of Initial D and Wangan Midnight for PC and for Steam.

Still, I am glad that this exists after all.

It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ great.
You'll get an 86 as your first car, and the whole drifting thing is very fun too.
It's these one of those games where there's a huge learning curve, yet it becomes very fun when you get the hang of it.
There are three difficulties, but they do not affect scores, if I recall correctly.

Easy, Medium, and Hard. (I am at Medium)

Easy is where you can control your car the easiest, and Hard is where you have to MASTER drifting in order to do it properly.

I can't say much, but it's great.

Although, to be fair, I wished the developers have it so the road can be (optionally) on a different colour as opposed to the props, it's kind of hard to see sometimes.

The Midnight Tracks is where the real treat comes in, it gets harder, but it's more fun.

It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fun.
I know, Racenet doesn't work on my end, but that still doesn't stop me from liking it.
The way how the cars are handled is challenging, but really satisfying.

I am more of a casual player so I end up trying to slide around corners (except for Endurance) with 4WD or RWD cars for fun and kicks, and it is really fun too, if you wanna be fast but stylish.

It's a shame that the "Create your own team" thing in the first GRID (Which is great, unfortunately it's gone from the Steam store) is not present, and you can only tune your car depending on the contract you'll get for signing on a team for a season. There is None, Low, Medium, and High. None will never let you tune your car, and High will give you full option on tuning. It will be a bit tricky from that point.

But hey, the respective drivetrains on the cars are great, and distinct. The feeling of weight on the cars is present, especially if you're trying to brake or turn into a hard corner with heavy cars, or flicking your car around corners with light cars.

Still, if you like racing games that are 75% Simulation, yet 25% Casual, I'd recommend this.

EDIT: Oh, and I forgot, the DLCs are really worth it, especially the Sprint DLC. The aforementioned DLC can let you drive on canyons, and mountain passes (Hong Kong, California, or that one mountain from the Okutama track) either on uphill or downhill.

And the Subaru BRZ (Then the RX-7 and the R-32 as DLC) is there, if you're asking.

This is just 10 minutes, but it's crafted beautifully.

This is the type of video game movie that we should have gotten, in this kind of quality and in this kind of writing.

If other video game movies are coming, they should learn from this.

This game constantly holds your hand as you try to drift.
Even if you turned off Steering Assist to off, it is still there.
Get CarX Drift Racing Online instead, it's much better.
Please, Just look away from this.

EDIT: THEY REMOVED STARTER EDITION, AND UBISOFT SAID THAT IF YOU BOUGHT STARTER EDITION, YOU WILL BE UPGRADED TO STANDARD EDITION FREE OF CHARGE!

This game is a massively complex 5v5 competitive game, as you will learn that each operator has his or her own way of solving a problem.

Want to breach or open up a reinforced wall? Three offensive operators (as of now) can do that for you.
Want to strengthen a reinforced wall so no one else can breach it? Three defensive operators (also as of now) can answer that question for you.
Want to hold massively long angles? Two offensive operators specialize on that, but on different ways.
Want to use custom built cameras for surveillance? Three defending operators can do that for you.

Mind you, that even if these operators solve the same problem, the WAY how they solve those is fundamentally, and massively different.

Remember those ones I told you that can breach walls? Each have varying sizes of holes, one can make a massive entryway, one can make small entryways but can also make peeking angles, and one can silently open a small hole for him and his teammates to sneakily peek on.

Those people who can hold massively long angles? One has a semi auto rifle that has a thermal scope (with a bunch of smoke nades with him), and one has a protective shield that may be fragile, but it will massively help if given the right circumstances, and given if you use it properly.

Some concepts may not mean much, but this is a game of miliseconds, each decision counts.

Just think of this as CS:GO, but with more variables (in a good way).

Holy ♥♥♥♥.
Where do I start?

There's the presentation (and graphics), combat, gameplay, and the music.

With the presentation, it's purely cyberpunk, with all of the good looking cinematics, cities, and colours too.
You're in this cyberpunk themed place, and you're some guy who got hacked by someone else to "kill BOSS", but a girl stops you from doing so, and there are other bits too as she helps you throughout the story. I won't get into detail.

So far, with all of the presentation, my rig's running fine, even for a computer with an i3 @ 3.70 GHz, 8 GB of RAM, and a GTX 750 with 1 GB of VRAM. There are still some stutters during some intense fights, but it's nothing to scoff at.

The combat, is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ lovechild of Hotline Miami and DooM 2016, with its intense, beat em up like fighting (with a choice to switch between melee or gun instantly. If you are using an XBOX 360 controller, Right Button is for melee, and Right Trigger is for shoot, they will switch instantly, trust me), and DooM's Glory Kill system, now a RUINER kill system, except when you do those, it makes you faster and stronger for a limited period of time, and it stacks.

And don't get me started with the Time/Reflex ability. That thing also has this trait where time ONLY moves when YOU move. It's basically like Superhot.

And the music? It's also great too, and it's kickass.

I've played this game before, I played it offline on my first run, on a PS3. I'd say it's pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ optimized for a current gen (2015 or so on) game, but it foreshadows the experience and the kind of optimization I'd get from my rig.
It's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ godly.

I have an i3, a GTX 750 (at 1GB VRAM), and 8 GBs of RAM, and it still ran smoothly at high settings.

And sure, I do acknowledge the plot holes that the game had, and I hadn't finished the entirety of Chapter 2 on PS3, nor on PC, yet I'm on my way to finish the said Chapter 2.

But for a Kojima game, I'd say it's still on a high standard.
To trade/sacrifice for some of the writing quality (although, Kojima went all out on cinematography on this one, so watch them too), alot of it was invested on gameplay itself. You can do literally anything with the gameplay, ranging from basic tranq headshotting, close quarters combat with some holdups, or even going loud too.

And if you think singleplayer isn't enough, you can look forward to FOBs, sure, you have the risk of having your stuff stolen, but you can steal them back.

(But if you are the type to not be like that, I'm heard or told that if you dont bother stealing stuff, then you are ignored. Just verify me on that one.)

(By the way, I haven't tried much of Metal Gear Online.)

But, I'd have to say too, this game is better off being played without any foreknowledge of the trailers, they will make you dissapointed. The said trailers have made the game overhyped for alot of people, and I do not want the "could have beens" to ruin the last game Kojima makes before he departs from Konami.

This game would be worth your price, sale or not.
But if you don't seem to justify for the price, wait for a sale.

Besides, have fun if you do get the game.

After you suck all of the hours the game has, the only Phantom Pain you will have, is the desire for more. Just look for Kojima's Death Stranding for that one instead.
