You will lose your first few characters to dumb things.
Your next few will die to overconfidence from not dying to the previous dumb things.
After that, you'll live long enough to starve from lack of food/water prep.

But at some point, you'll realize your base has self-sufficient power and strong walls, your gardens have food and full rain-catchers, and you can handle hundreds of zombies without blinking. And it all kind of clicks.

The airships are almost comedically over-powered and will single-handedly carry your campaigns. The sheer amount of firepower these things pump out is awe-inspiring. A must for any vertically-challenged champions

Knocking people out of windows literally never gets old, and the game keeps feeding me more ways to do it. A+

Played this game in a dark room, shades drawn
Wife came in, said it's time for dinner
Ashed my cigarette in the meatloaf, it's burnt again
She's angry, says I don't respect her
She's packing up the kids, going to her mom's outside of town
It's for the best, these streets ain't safe for dames

One of the few games released anymore that feels like it was made for the express purpose of having fun. The premium currency is easily farmed in-game, the 'battle pass' system doesnt' disappear after 4 weeks so no FOMO, and the premium armor that is on the rotating availability come in cycles so you'll get another chance later if you missed it.

The guns all feel great to shoot and killing bugs feels punchy with limbs and chunks of exoskeleton flying off. The bots haunt my nightmares. Stratagems feel powerful and there's enough on every map to check out to keep you interested beyond shooting things. The sound design is awesome too, calling in a cluster bomb strike or a 500kg bomb feels good because the sound carries the power, and all the guns sound chunky and high-caliber.

Honestly, for $40 you're easily getting double that in value.

EDIT: They've added chemical weapons and more flame weaponry. You can do warcrimes on the bugs and bots. 11/10

It's honestly amazing to me that the same people who gave me characters I liked and who are known way beyond the scope of their games made this game and filled it with the absolute most bland characters I've ever seen in a game of this scale.

Not a single member of Constellation is interesting. I never once cared about anything they do or are involved in, and I honestly hope at some point Sam is violently depressurized out of an airlock. And that's just the companions, nevermind the actual characters in the quests. The people who the game wants you to believe are these cut-throat executives or evil space pirates are barely capable of hurting anyone it seems.

***Spoilers from here but you shouldn't care***

If you operate strictly on how it's written, the Crimson Fleet is a group of slightly antagonistic friends who would be more likely to go out shoplifting than raiding and murdering people for their ships. They don't talk or act like a group of notorious pirates should. Hell, through the actions of the player, you can expose some weasel who wants to kill the Fleet's boss, and instead of executing him he just lets him go. You can help them fight SysDef, this supposedly elite police force that behaves more like a group of well-armed mallcops, but it hardly matters. I did the Crimson Fleet questline almost right form the start and I've only seen one group of them in the wild that weren't milling about in abandoned factories or science outposts. I can't tell you about the Rangers or the UC questlines because I got so bored being an inoffensive pirate I just stopped playing.

Until the modders can make the game entertaining or something drastic happens to make the story good, I'd avoid this one.

EDIT: The modders have abandoned this project and are refocusing on games they don't find boring. No worse of a condemnation can be made for a game so dull and lifeless that even the modders can't be bothered to work on it.

All the people who refunded the game and left negative reviews because they couldn't beat a helicopter would've absolutely lost their minds when faced with Balteus. It's probably a good thing they gave up.

EDIT: half doing this for the award, half doing this to say they finally balanced the guns a little more and now there's viable options beyond the shotguns, which is nice. MP is still a mess though

I hate Reddit so I'm giving what is otherwise a great game a thumbs up just to counter the stupid bull that those crybabies constantly spew

I don't want to say the learning curve is steep, but I also spent a lot of time looking up guides and things on the wiki. But once you get into a cozy rhythm it's an extremely satisfying and enjoyable to sink hours into. There's something relaxing about sprucing up a nice church and making a lovely graveyard, just to do horrible experiments with the dead and defile their corpses in the basement.

If you played Stardew Valley and got bored of farming, you're still going to be doing that but there's enough to work on that farming is a minimal if not entirely optional part of the game
