Company of Heroes and I go way back, all the way back to when I was a kid in fact (before I even knew what Steam was, back when there were physical disks and copies of these games). This was the game that brought me into the gaming scene, as well as other games of the time period. However, this had a far greater impact on me then most others. Strategy, being able to take control of the battlefield with cunning tactics and combined arms warfare. This is truly revered as a masterpiece; from the sound design, the terrain destruction, all the way down to the core mechanics and game play loop. There is truly something out there for everyone, PvP, PvE, mods, maps, it has everything. Though graphically it can look a bit dated, it still shines at bringing a grueling World War 2 experience.

Lets start with the campaign, and oh boy! There is just so much to talk about (I will keep it brief), you get to experience a truly exciting set. From the Normandy missions as the United States, to the defense and ever knowing constant retreat from German land and German occupied lands as the Panzer Elite. This has everything, the story telling from the CO's and to the ordinary day to day soldier, it is an immersive experience that will last forever.

If your a fan of PvP, there are community hosted matches and tournaments still being played to this day (I in fact was a group leader of such a community for about a year). You can still find many people hosting lobbies that are dedicated to PvP as well through the multiplayer tab in game. They are intense, with each player focusing on resources, communicating and fighting for each sector and resource. Mods are huge in the COH community, and there are plenty to choose from as well, ranging from the Sino-Japanese war, to the expansion and overhauls like Europe at War and Blitzkrieg; offering greater variety of units, uniforms, vehicles, abilities and so much more.

PvE fans will be glad to know that the game is (in its vanilla form, don't know about the modded community) in fact quite alive and doing well. There are plenty of others that look into hosting lobbies against bots and there are many different play styles that these can take up. Most commonly, is the infantry only and combined arms lobbies. The bots start from Easy and get a little harder until you reach Expert, with the AI throwing everything at you in hopes of overwhelming your position and pushing you all the way to your base.

I highly recommend the game if you are just getting started in the strategy game department and RTS scene. This game is on sale quite often, you can even find it cheaper on something like G2A and other sites, but $20 is not a steep price to pay, especially with expansions that you can get at any point later in time.
