One of the greatest RPGs of all time,

I started playing Elder Scrolls games with IV Oblivion, and enjoyed it very much for its open world and seemingly infinite quests. Morrowind is Oblivion with much more freedom. You are free to roleplay any type of character build you want to. Now the graphics may not be as up to par as most games today, but the game plays like no other. The main story is great and engaging, but you start off not knowing much about it or the land which is revealed nicely over time. The side stories of the various guilds all take you to cool new locations and allow you to gain more levels and increase your skills, they too have great stories. You become the hero instead of starting as one which is something that differs a lot from todays games, as starting out in Morrowind and even into a bit of the later game before you ascend into godhood with Alchemy and Enchanting is incredibly deadly. At level 1 a basic rat enemy can be a dangerous fight for you.

I have played Morrowind many times on both PC (both steam & OpenMW) as well as on the original Xbox a long while ago.

Building your own spells, enchanting your own gear, creating your own potions. Fantastic quests that let you explore the world and I mean really explore it as Morrowind does not hold your hand with simple quest markers. For example a quest could have you be told to "leave the town and head west, make a right at the fork in the road, keep going till you hit the lake, look for a funny rock and the cave should be near there" instead of a typical waypoint on your screen. This gives you much more time to enjoy and explore the world of Morrowind.

If you've never played Morrowind you really should. If the graphics put you off you can of course mod the game like most any Bethesda game and bring the graphics up too.
