Really solid Diablo-like, still being updated years later.

Easily one of the best fighting games available currently. The single player modes aren't anything to write home about, but there's still a large population of online players with a good mix of skill levels. The combat system's exceptionally deep, the characters are diverse and well balanced, and overall this is definitely worth picking up.

Tyranny is by no means a perfect game, but if you've got fond memories of the Infinity Engine or appreciate the choice-and-consequence found in games such as The Witcher or Alpha Protocol, then this will be right up your alley.

The setting is relatively novel for an RPG; a Bronze Age fantasy world, which has already been conquered by an evil overlord known as Kyros. You are a Fatebinder - essentially a bureaucrat in Kyros' army - who is tasked with cleaning up the mess caused by some feuding higher-ups. What follows is a unique study in evil; Obsidian's writing shines through, as the characters you meet have interesting (and frequently conflicting!) motivations that can generally be summarised as "trying to survive in a hellish world in their own individual way". Something that would be seen as horrific in any other RPG here becomes trivial, and that viewpoint is all too seductive.

The world building and writing is excellent, but Tyranny has its issues. Some choices are missing options that seem obvious, which can - at times - feel slightly immersion breaking. Combat can devolve into a chore, with even the weakest enemies taking a surprisingly long time to kill, and magic seems far stronger than any other type of combat (although the spellmaking system is a joy to play around with). The pacing is somewhat inconsistent; the final chapter of the game is surprisingly short, and the ending itself comes abruptly. It feels very much like Tyranny is waiting for a DLC expansion or sequel to be a full experience.

All in all, however, Tyranny is a flawed gem that's quite likely to become a cult classic. If you can overlook some of those flaws, you'll have an excellent time exploring the evil side of life.

Solid gameplay, but an awful port. Framerate drops are frequent, patching is considerably slower than on the console versions, both major patches released so far have been huge in size (~15 GB each) and introduced new issues (one of twelve stages was unplayable for a week after the first, user save data deleted after the second), the amount of DLC is excessive and displayed overly prominently, and online play is poor at best.

After being a Mortal Kombat fan since the 16-bit era I'm sad to say that the PC version of Mortal Kombat X is not worth purchasing.
